Been a longtime user of Penn reels but have switched over to Shimano because Penn is made in China and will NOT last, just like all my Penn reels lately. Not wasting anymore time and money replacing parts. Going Shimano now which is NOT made in China and built to last. This Shimano Sahara reel is smooth and works like a high quality reel. Can't go wrong with Japanese or German engineering.

The Stella 5000 FJ is a NICE REEL. I have a Stradic FK 4000. If I close my eyes, and go reel to reel, the only difference is the handle. Seriously. The 4000 Stradic FK and the 5000 Stella FJ feel and fish exactly the same. The Stella 5000 FJ is not $729.00 worth of reel. I returned mine. I am really curious about what a Stella 6000 SWC will be like because the SW is a more robustly sealed reel, holds more 20lb braid, and is more solid. The Stella 5000 FJ is NOT a sealed reel. It has seals, yes, it's true. BUT, THAT THING WILL DIE ON THE BEACH.There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Stella FJ as a thing all by itself, but Shimano was using an old playbook when they designed it. The biggest problems with a Stella 5000 FJ are the Stradic FL and the Van Staal VR50. ... MoreThe Stella 5000 FJ is a NICE REEL. I have a Stradic FK 4000. The biggest problems with a Stella 5000 FJ are the Stradic FL and the Van Staal VR50. You could get both for the same amount of money as the Stella FJ 5000. Then you would have a water-proof tank for the beach, and a nice free-spinning reel for the lake. Nothing does it all at this time. Also, in the real world, the Stella 5000 FJ holds 160 yards of 20lb power pro V2. 200 yards will fit onto the spool, it is true. Barely, with a machine. After all the wind knots are out though, you've got about 160 yards. Not enough line for 25-60lb fish, which is the purpose of a 5000 reel.Nice Reel. Shimano makes great products. They need to direct their efforts a little differently however. The priorities are a little suspect on this product. Needs 2019 sealing. Needs More Line. The Anti Reverse Clutch feels like it's plastic (it is). It's kinda flexy, too. Doesn't feel solid. When you shake it, it rattles inside. Handle had play, maybe needed a shim.It made an 11lb pike look like a little punk. It's smooth. Well made. A good reel.I just want more of what it's missing. With the resources and expertise that Shimano has, they could make a 12oz reel (this one is 9.2oz) that is still super smooth, holds 250 fishable yards of 20lb power pro, have tons of silky smooth stopping power, survive a dunk in the surf and have a high quality rigid feel to it. One reel that can handle a 2lb Largemouth, and a 150lb Tarpon. That is not this reel. Maybe a 6000 SWC. But that doesn't exist right now.Just my opinion.

Good value for the price. Smooth casting. Rather stiff on closing after casting, find myself manually closing the majority of the time. This is my second Sedona, and the first has been consistantly trouble free. Its light, but sturdy and the brake is easy to set, and adjust. Really like these reels. Paired with Ugly sticks GX2, 6.5, and 7 foot medium heavy
I was looking for a spinning reel to go chasing Redfin with in the local lakes and later flicking for flathead. I went in store and tried a few different reels for feel and balance etc. I also did some online research to what would suit my needs the best. The Shimano Sedona FJ came out on top. It matches up with the 7ft Shimano Maikuro II, very nicely.
bought about a month ago and is heavily used, prefect for bait and soft plastics when used with a 2-4kg setup, drag sounds amazing too and the design is impeccable and feels a lot lighter than it actually isI catch bream, whiting snapper, squire and squid and pike with it
This is the most solid spinning reel in ultra light I have ever owned. Of course I have been fishing since 1960 and I had to purchase two. One for a fishing buddy and one for myself.
I bought this reel back in November 2023 and its an amazing reel, it’s exactly what I thought it would be , a classic smooth operation from shimanoLooks fantastic to the eye , performance is definitely on point and casts a country mile, plus the handle feels good in the hand , punches well above its price tag
I’ve been really impressed by the Sedona (both the Fi and FJ as own them both) but I like the look of the FJ better. Super smooth reel, construction is better (more heavy duty) than the Sienna. I own 3 Sedona’s and I’ll continue using them for my salt water fishing needs. Just make sure not to dunk them as they’re not sealed like the Nasci, and make sure to wash them off after use in saltwater and you’ll be good to hook. My Sedona catches me 25 inch red fish all day long.
