A Good First Road Shoe

I've yet to really wear these in anger but my first impressions are pretty positive.I'm a bog standard UK size 10 and find that EUR size 45 fits me perfectly - I have another pair of Shimano shoes and a pair of NorthWave, that are both size 45 and perfect fits. They are however MTB shoes. This is my first pair of road shoes and whilst they fit fine in terms of length, and will fasten, they do seem slightly narrow. I appreciate that road shoes may well be more sleak than MTBs anyway, and that they might just feel odd to begin with. The shoes have a good sole, which is pretty stiff and certainly good enough for general riding. I don't really need a pair of high performance shoes, but I'll still go for the best quality for what I need. Comfortable cycling shoes for both indoor or outdoor cycling

Have had these for about 2 months using both inside and outside and I have no complaints. The velcro straps work well and keep my foot secure. I'm a size 9 in pretty much all other shoes, and the size 9 in these cycling shoes fits very well. If you're going to using with thin cycling socks, you could consider going a half size down, but not necessary. Fits pretty well true to size.

My first pair of cycling shoes with cleats. The RC1 shoes are 1 size larger than my regular shoes and fit comfortably; the cleats were easy to fit and to use on the bike. Throughout the eight testing rides, so far, I forget that I am wearing the shoes and maintain positive peddling power. I am very pleased with the shoes and would buy them again.

Great first road shoes
18 March 2021

I bought these when upgrading my hybrid bike's pedals to the Shimano SPD SL system. This is my first foray into proper road shoes and I couldn't believe how incredibly light these shoes are after using MTB shoes (without cleats) but they also feel very sturdy. The three velcro straps provide a great fit around the foot. I am usually a UK size 9 shoe so went up to the EU 44 (UK 9.5) and they are pretty snug - I probably could have got away with the EU 45 but I'm not in any discomfort when riding or walking. There is also plenty of ventilation through the shoe which I noticed as soon as I started riding in them. I look forward to many more miles in my Shimano RC1s!

Great road cycling shoes
26 April 2021

I am new to road cycling (6 weeks in) and purchased these about a week after transitioning from flat pedals to clipless pedals . Whilst i don't have anything to compare these to, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Easy to put on/take off and the velcro straps make it easy to adjust to the right comfort level. The longest I've worn these for so far is 2.5 hours and there was no signs of discomfort.I followed the size guide online, however they actually came up a little small (I wear Nike size 9 so ordered EU 44, which was recommended), so I quickly ordered the next size up (EU 45) and they fit perfectly!I would highly recommend these cycling shoes.

Great shoes, comfortable and great fit!
15 November 2021

These are my first cycling shoes and honestly I didn't expect them to be comfortable. It's uncomfortable to ride with cleats for a first few days. On my first 200km ride I fell thrice as I forgot I had cleats on but by my next 300 km ride I got the hang of it and these shoes performed superbly in the entire 300 km of wet weather. After so much of rough use, didn't find a scratch on them and they appear as good as new after the first wash. Happy I went with the Navy color as it looks suttle yet stands out of the black ones.

Incorrect size on these shoes
27 May 2021

I wear a US 10.5 or EU 44 and bought the shoes in the 44 size. Inside the shoe the label shows it as being a US 9.7 and this is close to being accurate. No way I could wear a thin cotton sock and fit my foot into the shoe. The Velcro straps are also much too short to work as intended and provide no room for adjustment.I am finding this to be a common problem where shoes are sold as 44 EU and are either EU 43.3 as shown on the shoe as with these shoes that are labeled as EU 44 and are US 9.7 size. It seems that one needs to go to a store and try on the shoes and not trust the sizing provided by the manufacturers.

Lime Green "Yellow" Shoes
18 November 2022

I ordered yellow shoes and received Lime Green. But your Customer Service Dept corrected my misconception that because the shoes were advertised as yellow did not mean that they were actually yellow. CS explained to me that yellow was just the name of the shoe and in no way inferred that the shoes were actually yellow. Does your CS Dept believe that all your customers are idiots?

Suits a wider foot
21 September 2022

I really wanted BOA shoes at the time but the fit on these was superior to stuff costing twice as much, slightly wider than everything else so I wasn't getting sore toes. They take abuse extremely well and have had repeated drops (and a bike drop), scuffs and stamps from flying mounts/dismounts, I'd probably buy them again if it wasn't for needing something easier to undo on the move. They clean easy too as I often have them coated in mix/gel spillage, wipe with a sponge.Come to think of it the velcro I'd have expected to wear out a bit by now is still secure as can be.Paired with Look Keo classics, bolt lugs secure as ever.

disappointed but just about do the job
16 December 2021

I have the top of the range shimano s-phyre shoes for my road bike and love them so I thought I'd get these lower cost ones for my peloton bike at home as couldn't be bothered to constantly switch the cleats over on my other shoes. These RC1 shoes are a different fit and much more unstable. They come well reviewed on other websites for use on peloton but I'm suspicious now that they're just paid reviews. Not the quality I would expect from shimano at all.
