This is a better quality product to use with a 10 or 11 speed 11-50 or 11-51 MTB cassette and it does not require a derailleur extension. It is also strong enough for use with Bafang retro fit e-motor.

This review is about the Shimano M5100 group set as a whole. I made my first foray into mountain biking a few months ago with the purchase of a gently used Orbea MX50 mountain bike. It came with a Shimano Atlus 3x8 group set (3 gears/cogs in front, 8 gears/cogs in back for those as new to this as I recently was). This group set has been a HUGE upgrade.I switched everything to 1x11 which required buying a new crank, sprocket, chain, derailleur, annd shifter. I have plenty of gear range and it is SO MUCH more functional. This group set has really changed my bike for the better!Keep in mind you will probably need to buy some special tools, grease, etc. I did the upgrade myself and it’s pretty involved but if you’re mechanical, it’s definitely a job that can be done ... Huge upgrade over microshift 10 speed. Paired with an XT shifter it is a really premium drivetrain. Excellent performance, durability, and value.
Brilliant piece of kit handles everything only thing shimano could of done is add a lock button to it when you take rear wheel out like sram mechs have to lock the mech tention otherwise superb

The derailleur shift perfectly and easy to adjust. It also has a clutch which is highly needed on the trails. It might not be an XT but it delivers just the same and for a few dollars less.
The new Shimano X100 drivetrains are fantastic. Solid shifting and great range of gears. The ability to go up to 51t cassette makes the climbs far easier. So good I ended up getting a 6100 drivetrain for my other bike.
Great long cage RD for setting up 1x 46/51T cassettes. Make sure the B stop ring is in the right place when fixing to the hanger. The B stop screw was about right out of the box for a 46T cassette. I used a 116 link chain for a 46T cassette. Super clean shifting.
Took me a while to get my 11-speed dialed in to the newer wide gear spread, but this derailleur works perfectly with 11-speed shifters, 11-speed chain, a 30T chainring, and an 11-51T Sunrace cassette.
