A true glutton for punishment, the legacy of the versatile Saragosa SW starts a new chapter in 2020 with enhanced capabilities and features to dominate the saltwater realm. The Saragosa SW now features Infinity Drive Technology and increases the reel’s winding torque under load compared to its predecessor to give anglers a distinct advantage over hard fighting game fish. Combined with a battle-tested rigid HAGANE Body that won’t flex under immense loads and the HAGANE Gear to create eternally smooth reeling, the capabilities of the Saragosa SW make it a thoroughbred workhorse among saltwater spinning reels. Benefiting from an IPX8-rated waterproof body, Saragosa SW also features a waterproof Cross Carbon drag and X-Protect for high-level water resistance to create long-lasting durability without sacrificing performance. No matter whether anglers are fishing inshore or offshore, jigging for bottom fish or casting baits at tailing fish, they can count on — just like they always have — the Saragosa SW to stay smooth no matter the conditions and perform when needed most. The bar is raised for saltwater spinning reels.

After reading Alan Hawks review of this series of reels I was wanting to get one. They were hard to come by until May/June 2021. Still cannot find locally to test so took a leap of faith. AH was right, this reel is awesome and he rated it higher than Stella SW due to performance and price point. You can buy a 6k, a 10k and a 25k and still be spending lessthan a Stella. I have caught some nice fish with mine. My heart was broken when I leaned it up against a fence and it fell and hit some rocks and scratched the paint and got sandy. I cleaned it up and it is still super smooth but has some scars. I saw that they had a 20% off on the 8k so just ordered one today. To live bait offshore on the kayak in S. Florida most of the guides recommend an 8 or 10k size. Will see ... MoreAfter reading Alan Hawks review of this series of reels I was wanting to get one. The 6k is paired with a Grappler from Shimano and it is a good rod. Not sure what I will pair the 8k with but something with a sensitive tip so I can see if the live bait is covered in grass or getting nervous around predators. Tight lines!

Reviewing the 14k Saragosa size - Incredible retrieve rate and overall feel. I bought this reel to use as a multi-purpose offshore tool for targeting reef/wreck species and pelagics. We are often drifting over bottom and frequently changing spots and it makes a difference to be able to retrieve your bait as quickly as you can. Don’t overthink the higher gear ratio. The rod will do most of the work anyway when fighting the fish. This reel also pairs well with an 8’ G Loomis E6X/8’ XH Teramar for casting plugs to tarpon from the beach.

The Saragossa is a very solid reel. I have a large lineup of Shimano reels for fishing the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean for a variety of species, but when it comes to casting to large Bull Redfish and Cobia the Saragossa 6000 is my go to. Great drag system and gears, nice retrieve rate, and built to last components. Be advised they do not have an automatic bail like other reels in the line up if that is something you are used to. You must manually close the bail after each cast.

Amazing reel, I got the 6000, it holds exactly 300M of 20lb spider wire. I can cast all my light lures from 8g much further then my nasci 5000 with 20lb braid. And the saragosa is smooth as silk, I cast 8g double clutches easily 20M maybe 30M, and 40g jigs 80M no problem. I use the shimano maikuro ii 902 for this reel and handles fish like a champ! I also squid fish with it and have caght a few squid, but I somehow catch more squid on hardbody lures hahaThis is a amazing reel!
Awesome reel, highly recommended at a good price. I use braid on this reel 40 lbs, it will take heavier. It has a smooth action with an easy to use drag. Pulls in snook, kingfish and yellowtail easily. I have recommended this reel to friends and people i have spoken to on the boat ramp. BCF staff i have spoken to personally have used this reel and fish locally.
Bought this reel to catch big offshore reef fish. I am so impressed with its robust, smooth and compact design. My first offshore trip produced some good size coral trout, red throat emporer and venus tuskies. The Saragosa handled these fish with ease. The ultimate test came when I hooked onto a 16kg amberjack with my drag just under full lock this monster pulled drag a few times but was no match for this reel ending the fight in about 10 mins or so. I was so impressed with the cranking power of this reel as I was fighting the fish. The only thing I will say is that the drag can be a bit hard to adjust but not an issue after seeing what this reel is capable of. Highly recommended powerful reel.
This is my second Shimano Saragosa SW 8000 spinning reel. These reels are relatively lightweight, strong, reliable, and smooth. I use my Saragosas on XX-heavy spinning rods for bottom fishing for fish like gag grouper and red snapper.
For the money, you can't beat this reel. Powerful, smooth, and holds tons of PowerPro braid. Shimano Saragosa SW has been redesigned in 2020 with a new sleek design, reduced weight, and more compact body. The spool has additional weight savings and a new lip design to reduce friction on casting. Shimano updated the internals by adding more parts from the Stella to provide longer-lasting smoothness and strength without adding weight.I own 2 8000's and 2 6000's. You will not be disappointed with the purchase. Thanks, Tackledirect
Great quality product from Shimano.Holds plenty of 30lb braid, has a beautifully smooth drag and is well balanced in the hand. With features found in the range of Stella's without the hefty Stella price tag you can't go wrong. As per the pic from anther reviewer, I also upgraded the knob to a 45mm Gomexus Knob, it's a great upgrade that takes the reel to another level.Just be aware that the bail arm needs to be closed manually after casting, it does not flip closed automatically when you start winding the handle
I looked at a number of reels from very expensive to inexpensive reels. While fishing at Cape Cod Cannel I asked some of the other fishermen /woman present how they liked their equipment and most of them allowed me to make several casts. Based upon their recommendations and my hands on trial I determined that the Shimano Saragosa SW10000 was the reel I would like to get. I shopped around and located the best price from Otto's Tackle World in Australia. I placed the order and received it promptly. I recently got to use it and it was such a delight I sent away and got a second one (8000) for a lighter rod that I own. It has an extremely smooth crank that made reeling the line in a dream with and without a fish-on. I did a lot of research and highly recommend it.
