Upgraded from a Shoei RF-1200, and this is better is in almost every way. Fits the same as the RF-1200.Plusses: My experience is that it is quieter, more comfortable, feels lighter, wider field of view, and has better aerodynamics. According to Ryan, it's also safer with a more elastic approach to impact absorption. I find it much better for highway riding with zero turbulence, and turning my head no longer causes sudden drag.Minuses: Pricey, and difficult to put on and take off. The new neck cushioning shape, while very comfortable, is tight enough that when removing it, I have to slide my index finger in and press down the ear lobes before lifting it up. If I don't, it rips out the liner (with snaps!) and gives my ears a very nasty tug. But if I do the earlobe ... MoreUpgraded from a Shoei RF-1200, and this is better is in almost every way. Tip: If it's on the side of the helmet, install the clip a bit more forward than you did before.Overall, I'd say if you can afford it, go for it. This helmet is a strong recommend.

I'm a fairly new rider of about 2.5 years and I've had 2 helmets, both Shohei's. My first was the Neotec 2. I did a ton of research and modular's seemed to give me the most options. Has a clear shield, pinlock, w/ tinted dropdown visor, can flip up the face for all kinds of stuff, gassing up, walking into stores (sounded logical at the time). Anyway, fast forward to a few weeks ago, I wanted something a bit more lightweight, photochromic face shield and something even quieter than my Neotec 2. As I was browsing the guy in the store somehow just reads my mind and says "for the money, I'd go with the Shohei RF1400 everyday. And you'll have a hard time finding a quieter helmet".I said, uh, what the hell, and decided to gift myself a Christmas present. Got me the RF1400 XL, Photochromic Shield, and Cardo 2nd headset kit.I had everything shipped to my house, and I installed everything, and when I tell you that I'm over the moon w/ my experience w/ this setup, I'm saying it with a smile as I'm typing this. It's super lightweight, it feels MUCH more aerodynamic than my Neotec 2. It's so much more quiet that I have to turn the volume down on my Cardo significantly. It could be the honeymoon phase, but the air venting also feels much better. I could not be happier with this, and as much as I like my Neotec 2, not sure when I'm going to wear it again. (Wonder how much I can sell it for?).

First Shoei after owning AGV, HJC and Bell helmets.Worn while seated in standard position, no wind screen (Ducati Monster).Fit: The size chart was accurate. I measured right at a large and it fits comfortably snug.On/off: It's new, so it's appropriately snug. That said, it does feel like I will either rip my ears off or the liner out when I take it off.Visibility: Seems equal to all my other full face helmets.Visor: I bought the Shoei photochromic one and have not installed the anti-fogging liner yet. I wanted to see how it did without it. The photochromic has great visibility and tinting for the sun and is not too dark when going through a lit tunnel. Why only four stars for Shoei's top of the line helmet? Some of that probably lies in my decision to buy a high end sport oriented helmet to use everyday with my KLR650. I should have bought a helmet that favors an upright riding position and I knew that going in.My bike has a tall touring windscreen that does a great job of keeping wind blast off my body but you still get some turbulence right on the middle of the face shield and upper part of the helmet. The RF1400 does a beautiful job dealing with the buffeting and you don't feel it. But there is a pretty fair amount of low frequency wind noise. Admittedly I am not using the chin curtain and it would probably mitigate some of that noise. The RF1400 is very comfortable and light and of course looks great! I already have ridden several hundred miles in it and it is all day comfortable. Vents are easy to open and close and work well. Visor closure snap is very positive.
I had an old Scorpion R2000 helmet that needed replacing, as parts are no longer available for it, and the padding/liner was worn out. I decided to give Shoei a try, and am very glad I did. The Shoei is a huge step up in quality. Fit and finish is perfect, the face shield is very sturdy and seals well. This helmet flows more air from the top center vent than all the vents on the R2000 did combined. Comfort is also excellent, it fits my head shape perfectly, with no hotspots, and soft padding. I was perfectly in between a small and medium, went with a medium, and the fit is perfect, snug without being too tight or too loose. Noise levels are quite low, provided you are in clean air. Even behind a somewhat noisy windscreen, noise levels are still reasonable. It is noticeably heavier than the old R2000, though not what I would call heavy overall. Despite that minor complaint, I would still recommend this helmet 100%.
Originally purchased an HJC i90, which i have nothing bad to say about. Unfortunately, i purchased the incorrect size, and felt that i would be better off getting a helmet of the right size. I liked the Neotec II, as i do like the modular features, and i had also tried on an RF 1400. It just felt like it grew on my head. I decided not to make the purchase at the store at that time, (cycle gear) and began searching on line for pricing etc. The Neotec II is a solid $599 no matter where you look now, as they are gearing up to start a new version, but i was finding RF 1400 prices pretty much all over the map. I was pleasantly surprised when i found the RF 1400 "Nocturne" on sale here at Revzilla for a lower price than the solid colors. I was pleasantly surprised when i found the RF 1400 "Nocturne" on sale here at Revzilla for a lower price than the solid colors. That was all i needed to trigger the purchase.Shipping was reasonable, i ordered on a Sunday and received on Thursday. I wore it around the house for a few days (weather gave me that opportunity) before heading out on the bike. Then we had a couple nice days so off i went. FYI, i have all of the accesories installed, chin curtain etc. Visibility is great in all directions. Noise level is a little lower than the HJC, and the helmet stays put when you hit 70 and above. For an extended period or riding, (an hour or so), i still felt comfortable. The clear visor is fine, but i am considering photo-chromatic as the low sun this time of year hits you directly in the face. The helmet fits very snug, particularly the cheek pads, but that has relaxed a wee bit, in the short time i've had the helmet. The helmet has a double d ring fastener, so no fancy ratchet system if that's what you like, but with the retention snap, it's fine and operates easily. The button to open the visor takes about 15 seconds to get used to, and ventilation seems pretty good so far, but i haven't had it in very hot situations yet. Yup, i'd say i'm very happy with this helmet particularly with the good price.
This is my 2nd Shoei helmet first and foremost. My 1st was the RF1100.Out of the box, this helmet is exceptionally good looking. It comes with the usual breath deflection and chin curtain. It also has removable ear muff inserts which hide the speaker ports if you are going with a comm system. Pin lock is also an additional touch and comes with the clear visor. I opted for the Transitions shield and used the pin lock on that and stored my clear shield for later.I really like the look of the helmet with the matte finish, and the color scheme is pretty cool too.Slipping the helmet on, and I opted for a large instead of a medium, and it still fits very nice and snug. Chin strap is easy to reach and fasten, but trying to snap it away is still a bit of a struggle. ... MoreThis is my 2nd Shoei helmet first and foremost. Chin strap is easy to reach and fasten, but trying to snap it away is still a bit of a struggle. It is tucked up on the strap and is really close to the first layer of cushions. Now, for the first ride.As others have stated, it is a bit on the louder side than I would like, especially from Shoei and the price point. My RF1100 was more quiet than this and that was about 19 years ago with that one, and I tracked with it as well. The vision is very good, as it has been opens both vertically and horizontally to improve the riders ability to see. Ventilation appears to be better than my other Shoei helmet did so that is a bonus. I can feel quite a bit of air coming into the helmet and it isn't being directed into my eyes, but around the forehead and chin area.
I don't doubt that this is a nice helmet. There's a reason Shoei has the stellar reputation that it enjoys. However, I was a bit dismayed when I received my Shoei helmet. To put this into perspective, I've been an Arai guy for decades, but I needed to replace an older helmet and was Shoei curious so I thought why not? Here's the problem. It's really friggin' tight on my face. The cheek pads smush my face to where the helmet is difficult to put on and uncomfortable to wear. The fit on the rest of the helmet is good. I replaced the cheek pads with some thinner ones. Better, but still not nearly as comfortable as the Arai. Plus, I really resent having to spend another $70 for an already expensive helmet to make it fit properly. And FWIW, I have a thin face, kind of ... MoreI don't doubt that this is a nice helmet. Nothing like the face of Chumlee of Pawn Stars, in case that's what you were thinking. This is defiantly going to be my spare helmet.
I've had Shoei helmets in the past and the RF-1400 has a typical Shoei fit, kind of an intermediate oval, which has always been very comfortable for me. Noise at speed: very subjective. To me, it is kind of loud at speeds above 45 mph. If I am going to be above 45 for prolonged periods I will probably start wearing ear protection. Cheek pads are pretty snug, thus the 4 stars. Are they uncomfortable? Maybe a little, I guess? Hoping they will relax in time.Vents provide good airflow and keep the helmet relatively comfortable into the 80's while you're moving. They are also pretty easy to operate with gloved hands. Good detent on the shield so it stays in place as needed. I've been riding into work at 4:30 am so it's getting cold and it's dark. The RF-1400 is warm at 48° at 65mph even without the chin skirt. The shield does fog up so I do have to crack the shield just a bit. The Pinlock is included but does diminish visibility when it's dark so I took it off. Would have liked to have a seen a micro ratchet for the chin strap. Finish is excellent as you'd expect from Shoei. Overall a good purchase.
