I broke my last helmet after a fall so needless to say a new helmet was a must. My last helmet was a Smith without any bells and whistles but did the trick for years. This one seems very nice. The BOA works well, even despite my large head (7 1/2 baseball size). I haven't tried to put it on over a thin beanie but it feels like that might be a possibility. The magnetic clasp works well so far, no pinching and I can do it in mittens. I haven't fallen in the helmet so I can't really review the safety features. It has MIPS but I am not sure if that is of material benefit or marketing, though the helmet certainly seems like it was built well.

Picked up a giro trig, pret shaman, pret cynic, and a smith holt to compare which was best. The smith maze was hands down the most comfortable because the built in liner and BOA system. There were no pressure points when tightening and the liner is really soft.The style of the helmet is great, and the fit over the skull is even better. Fit well, may be a bit small but that was not a problem. It was warm despite not having a warm light liner as described. I was disappointed as the REI description stated the vents are adjustable and they are not, I even called Smith Optics who confirmed that on their website it does not state that they are adjustable. The REI Description says : AirEvacâ„¢ ventilation offers adjustable climate control via 6 vents; can be adjusted even while wearing gloves

I bought this helmet because it's one of the few MIPS helmets certified for both summer (biking) and winter use, which was important to me knowing that material properties can change based on temperature and a helmet that's safe in one season may not be as effective in another. It's really nice to just have one helmet I can use for all seasons instead of keeping multiple around.Pros:- Extremely comfortable - vast improvement over any other helmet I've owned.- The actual inside of the helmet can adjust sizes, and in each size there's some elastic stretch too. I always hated wearing a helmet because they were clunky, but I knew that I needed to wear it for my safety on the mountain. I finally bought the MIPS helmet based on a recommendation, and in that same trip I wiped out straight on the back of my head. Thank goodness I was wearing my helmet, as it was a painful fall, but no permanent damage thanks to my MIPS helmet. I actually prefer this to a beanie now even for comfort. It keeps my head warm and you can adjust the tightness too. The buckle for your chin is really easy to slip on/off, and I never pinch my fingers because of the unique way the buckle works (almost like there's a magnet?). Anyways, love this helmet + highly recommend especially when it goes on sale!
Comfortable. Lightweight. Looks clean. MIPS! Reasonably priced. I used it a few times during spring boarding and it was comfortable, warm, with plenty functional features for the price point. Add in being a MIPS helm and it's a winner.
Overall this is a solid helmet, feels sturdy and light and is comfortable. If you plan to wear anything underneath (like a beanie), I'd recommend measuring the circumference of your head and plan for a possible larger size. The only downside I observed is that it doesn't come too far down your forehead. Again, perhaps measure your head and plan for a larger size. All in all, this is a great option for a MIPS helmet and I highly recommend it.
Great kids MIPS helmet, comfortable, lightweight, and well fitting for smaller heads. The only thing we're not crazy about is the adjustable snap feature-much prefer the rotating knob design you see on many others. The adjustable snaps are harder to use, harder to get a good fit, and the kids aren't able to adjust them on their own.
The Smith Code is a good looking helmet, I only wish the functionality was as good. The goggle keeper strap is a flimsy piece of plastic that is held in place by being jammed into the foam of the helmet. It stayed in place for less than a season and the goggles either slide down or up and off. Not good.Other notes: the profile is low in the back which can be chilly on cold days, and there are no adjustable vents.
Everything I need, nothing I don't. Definitely a no frills helmet (no close-able vents, no adjustment on head size other than elastic). No issues with the vents letting in too much moisture, if at all, and no issues with goggle fogging. The visor seems to help seal up things nicely on my forehead. Feels more streamlined and not as bulky as other helmets i've had. Super comfy, super good looking, super price.
