This helmet is awesome. I have used it many days, warm ski days, long tours, storms etc etc. Over all it is versatile, and very light. It comes with a thin helmet liner hat/beanie. I love this as it breathes well and adds just enough insulation. On warm days I don’t wear the beanie and use just the helmet. The whole set up breaths really well! The helmet its self is well balanced and so light that I barely can tell I have something on my head. Despite that it holds onto my goggle strap really well.There are only a couple of small things i noticed. First, the chin strap tends to loosen over a day of use. No super big issue but noticeable. As it is, stick on goggle clips are an easy fix.Ultimately though, when you're cutting weight in a product it is a matter of compromises and these are all aspects I'm happy to deal with for what I get. A relatively light, very compact, comfortable, & triple-cert helmet with both MIPS and Koroyd protection. I chose my downhill helmet in good part because of the MIPS/Koroyd protection combo and I'm glad my backcountry helmet can now claim the same.

Working as a professional ski guide I look for gear that is equally lightweight and durable, so this seemed like a great piece of equipment to update too. However, I was shocked to see it come in weighing more than a 100grams heavier than my Smith Maze helmet not to mention its profile is significantly larger.Normally I do not like to buy things without trying them on first, but with no retailers stocking this item in Western Canada I risked making the purchase online. Then for the sizing not to be true to other helmets and having to pay more shipping to return it. This was $70 in fees I have to eat as a customer when the majority of companies these days will incur this cost in shipping either in one or both directions.For a helmet in this class I strongly suggest looking at Sweet Protection who offer almost an identical item, but slightly lighter and with a lower profile. Even better than that I would suggest Julbo whose ski/mountaineering helmet is 100g lighter.

I usually wear fitted hats that at 7-5/8" and this Adult Large shell fits me well - with room to spare. The BOA system for adjustability is easy to adjust with thick gloves on - but the side strap that tightens sits JUST above my ears. I can see how some of the other reviewers say this strap tightens on the top of their ears. The actual adjusting wheel sits around the middle of the back of my head - about where it seems it should be.I love the appearance of the flat black with the mini-vents...its just got this really good looking appearance.Two added bonuses are the fabric carrying case and the beanie for underneath the helmet to keep your ears covered - although I have not had this beanie on in LOW temps (below 15deg F). I ordered the large matte black. I ordered the large even though my head fits the medium because it was on the higher end of medium. I figured the large would accommodate beanies and goggle straps. The fit is great, the BOA system brings a wide range of fitment choices, and the inner lining tightens and wraps the cranium well making for a snug fit when you really crank it down. The helmet feels a bit heavy when wearing it, more than I expected but I think it is because the weight is distributed unevenly between the 2 parallel pads that run front to back carrying all the weight of the helmet. I don't think its enough of an inconvenience beyond mentioning it here. It also came with a nice little skull cap that makes the fit feel even better. I've landed on my favorite being a buff, ball cap and sun glasses. The boa has a very wide range so you can add or subtract layers depending on the day. I'd say my only complaint is that it seems to run a lot larger than my smith vantage helmet. Without any layers, I have to tighten the boa all the way down, compared to my vantage, which is only half way tight. I'd also like a goggle strap on the back, since the surface is pretty smooth and slippery, but obviously isn't an issue with sun glasses, which is maybe the intention. I bought this to replace my smith mission which i was rocking without ear flaps for years for this purpose.+ folding boa adjustment is great.+edges are molded so they don’t delaminate like some others with heavy use.- chin strap situation flaps wildly at speed. Super annoying.- There is no goggle retention catch or clip (a vertically oriented bungee (like the side ones) would be sweet to keep the goggles straight.- headlamp slots and bungee attachments are gimmicky, but at least they don’t flop around or come undone.- mips is still awkward and unnecessary.
What a huge disappointment. I wear a medium Vantage. It fits perfectly. What a great shell design. It's just what I wanted. However, the straps on the Summit are non-adjustable. No fore-aft chin strap adjustment is possible. Either the chin strap must be positioned too uncomfortably low, or the front temple straps will be too loose for a safe fit. Two 5g sliders plastic at the strap triangle would have eliminated this problem. In addition, the symmetrical l-r length of the strap triangles places the buckle too far toward center, making the chin strap pad useless. Unfortunately, the Summit fits a very specific head shape – but with non-adjustable straps, it isn't mine. Returned.
The helmet is quite large overall, does not feel trim. My biggest issue is that the tightening system/cables comes down below my ears so when I cinch down the helmet my ears get pinched and with a hat on, there is no adjustment. The dial feels like it sits awkwardly low on the back of my neck as well. The chin strap is also odd, and when tightened the buckle sits center under my chin and the pad does nothing. I really wanted to like this helmet, but it doesn’t seem like it was tested for fit on small -average women.
