Absolutely fantastic TV!

What do I like about this TV? EVERYTHING! Very sharp picture, Google/Android operating system integrates so well with Youtube TV, Youtube, etc. Setup was a breeze. It prompted me to log into my google account, and it transferred all my subscriptions, services, and passwords right to the TV. Could not have been easier. I primarily use Youtube TV for live tv, but I decided to try a cheap flat antenna, and just stuck it behind the tv. Reception is amazing! The ATSC 3.0 tuner in this tv is very sensitive, and nothing buffers or glitches. I have a huge expensive antenna on my Tivo Roamio OTA DVR that I was previously using for live local TV, and the reception on that box is terrible compared to this new Sony tv. The live channel guide is sweet! It integrates your OTA channels, Youtube TV, and all the other streaming services built into the Google/Android system. Super easy to use, and everything all in one place. The hands free "hey Google" control of the TV is also great! I don't even have to touch the remote...ever. The only thing I will tell you is that to make it work, there is a physical on/off switch for the microphone on the bottom center edge of the TV, next to the physical power button. You have to turn it on for the built in microphone to work. Sound quality of the built in speakers is ok, but you will quickly want to add a sound bar. I have a cheap Samsung sound bar and subwoofer, and it plays nice with the TV. As soon as I plugged in the HDMI cable to the ARC/HDMI input, it automatically turned off the onboard speakers. I mounted this to the wall using a Sanus FLF424KIT articulating wall mount, also from WalMart. Very heavy duty quality mount. The TV weighs 76 lbs without the stand, and 104 lbs in the shipping box (massive box, but well packed). Two of us easily got it mounted to the wall. The nice thing about the mount is you can pull the TV out from the wall a foot or two, swing it to the side, etc. Makes it super easy to get things hooked up behind it, and of course to move it as you need to for watching TV. The TV chassis appears very solid, quality built, and very nice looking. I moved up from an 11 year old Panasonic Plasma, which was a great tv that still had a great picture, but none of the smart TV features. What an upgrade in that area! No regrets at all. I would 100% buy this TV again.

Almost great

Had the TV for about 3 months now and overall really pleased with the quality of picture and speed of the interface. Full disclosure, this is my first time buying above an entry level TV so my expectations for spending 2-3 price are high. I paid around AU$1.8k on special.Compared to my mid level TCL Google TV that often hangs when switching between apps this Sony Google TV is snappy and seamless. The quality of colour and the depth of the blacks is very impressive but does have its shortcomings. Particularly noticeable when playing games with white loading screens, but presents in all contexts, there is silhouetting in the corners (darker in the corners where the light distribution fails to properly fill). I personally find it very distracting and have never experienced this with even much cheaper TVs, which is really disappointing but apparently common with this type of panel. Had the TV not been so big and wall mounted I probably would have returned it for that reason alone. The other key gripe is again on game loading screens, black screens that have white text or icons, because the blacks are so dark, there's a noticeable glow around those specific areas. That part is really only noticeable in that scenario however and isn't detrimental to general video viewing.Less important miscellaneous details, you cannot control optical audio with the remote which I could do on an older Sony TV so now I have to connect via headphone aux port which automatically lowers the output which is annoying. The TV doesn't have any RCA ports and doesn't come with an adapter (sold separately) which my cheaper TCL included for free. Last issue is that default remote it comes with is pretty basic and I don't find the button positioning intuitive. The TV help info told me the remote has back light and "find my remote" functionality but apparently that is only on a higher tier TV, or perhaps in overseas markets.Overall a very nice TV and generally happy but personally at the price, I'd hoped to be more satisfied. Maybe others who have spent much more expensive OLED TV's would consider this cheap and perfectly adequate

The second and only other glaring issue are the two remote controls units supplied with this TV. One is high quality but not detailed enough to give comprehensive control of all functionality. The other is cheaper than any other a Sony product I have ever purchased and too small to use intuitively, especially in low light, or if you have moderately sized hands and fingers. Sony have dropped the ball here. They should have produced a single, comprehensive, large style remote control unit where all of the A95’s extraordinary features can easily be explored. By producing two, they have oddly missed the mark with both. The cost of this TV warrants a rethink and reissue of a remote control unit that gives owners comprehensive functional control. A well designed TV remote becomes a device which a user learns to use and then does so intuitively. Neither of those offered with this TV will allow the owner that satisfaction. On every level, Sony have achieved a master stroke of screen and sound engineering…but they can do even better with just a few tweaks.

Best 50 inch TV
8 December 2023

I have been using this 50 inch XR full array tv for over month and so far very happy with it.Compared too my older bravia LED tv this is twice as bright and lot richer in colour. The picture quality is excellent , the local dimming is really good the black levels are very close to the inky blacks you would get on a OLED but this produces a brighter more impactful picture than my older Sony 48A9 OLED.The motion and upscaling is amazing most of my older HD content looks good and almost 4k, the detail and depth on any source is eye popping I think the XR processor makes the difference when compared to the older X1 chip.Google tv is fast and responsive there is no lag when switching between apps and settings, google voice remote works well no issues with lag or ... MoreI have been using this 50 inch XR full array tv for over month and so far very happy with it.Compared too my older bravia LED tv this is twice as bright and lot richer in colour. Bought the open box, it had lot of issues
24 November 2023

!!Beware before buying!!I bought this as a part of Black Friday sale. I heard good thing about geek squad certified and decided to give open box a chance, but the TV had plethora of issues, I am not even sure if they checked the unit before selling it here. Here's a list of problems:1. There are two dark spots in the screen which looked like someone put the screws of wall mounted hard and damaged the display panels, you would not expect such problem to go unnoticed if it is "certified" open box.2. In-built wifi and bluetooth doesn't turn on. I tried everything I could, but through a bit of online research, I found this to be a known issue with SONY TVs from 3 years ago which doesn't look like has been fixed yet, even after updating the TV's software. You can see vignette around the corners, like there are shadows which either indicates LEDs loosing colours, or just damage. If there was an option to upload photos/videos, I would gladly have.I returned the TV within a day, it was my first experience with Best Buy Geek Squad, and will be the last as well.Do check for following mentioned issues if you buy this open box TV.

As a former home audio video installer I dealt with quite a few brands and LG tended to be the go to brand for TV’s. They had (actually still do) a quality build, picture, and flexibility as well as a very good price point that left room for profit. Sony has always been the benchmark in the TV world when it comes to the picture. They had kind of been overtaken for several years when the plasma to LCD transition was happening and I wasn’t sure they would recover their status. So with a home full of LG TV’s I decided to see for myself if Sony was back in the game with a offer to good to refuse. Walmart gave me early access to a 75” $1500 Sony TV for $960 to the door. Very happy to report that I’m so glad I’m took advantage of that deal as this TV is superb for its price point. I have absolutely no complaints at all. Sure a $4K would have better this and that but I’ve found that 95% of the time I’m just fine without perfect blacks etc.. The other thing I was worried about was it arriving with a broken screen but it arrived in perfect condition. I don’t understand people giving the TV a bad review due to a cracked screen but people are people so…. This TV is worth every penny of the full $1500 price and you won’t be disappointed. Sorry for rambling

The UI is much faster than the XE83 and zips between menus very quickly. Finally, the last small irk I have with the XE83 is dialogue on movies getting drowned out, requiring a volume increase to sometimes deafening levels. Although not perfect, and not a comparable performance with a soundbar, overall sound and speech is nice and clear. Overall, very pleased.

Not so smart
25 October 2023

I bought this TV in January 2023. It was reasonably easy to setup but the apps ( such as streaming apps like Disney+, Binge, SBS on demand etc.) were very cumbersome to get started and activated. Regardless, the TV has worked fine for 8 months then for no apparent reason all streaming apps had stopped working (with the exception of NETFLIX). After contacting Sony technical support and trying many different things like resetting all the apps, returning the TV to factory default, deleting and reinstalling all the apps over and over again, changing my home network settings, trying a different brand of network gateway, and much more, the TV started to behave again. In total we were without the TV for almost 1 month.I have other TV’s in the home … a smaller Sony ... MoreI bought this TV in January 2023. Compared to the other TV’s it’s buttons are difficult to locate with the lights off.Picture quality is OK, sound quality is very average. This TV definitely requires the addition of a sound bar to improve the sound quality.

Terrible delivery service
8 December 2023

I did a ton of research trying to find the best TV for the best price and thought I hit the jackpot buying a $900 Sony X90K (2022 model) compared to $1500 for this years model from Costco. I was dead wrong. The bad review for Estes is spot on, they delivered the TV without doing any kind of quality review of the box that had a deep puncture that cut through the boxes cardboard, the plastic liner and the inner cardboard that was protecting the screen. So I go through the hassle of setting up a 104 lb 75 tv, and of course it's shattered, I contact Walmart for an exchange and they don't have one because I guess they sold every single unit in all of their warehouses across the country. So I go through the additional hassle of having to package the broken tv back into the box and needing to borrow a friend's truck to return this to a Walmart store for a refund.End result of me buying a Walmart subscription to be one of the first people to buy this TV on Sunday preview of Cyber Monday is that I wasted 2-3 hours on setup and return, I have no tv for my living room, and every other TV is now way more expensive including the Sony X90L which is $1700 now. Thanks Walmart, you not only didn't give me a TV or save me money, you actually cost me more money than I would have paid if I'd just bought a TV elsewhere.

You get what you pay for…

This was a great Black Friday deal! $900?! Well! They’re practically paying me to buy this TV!!!The good:Amazing vivid color BRIGHT tv! We thought our two year old model Samsung was broken after watching this Sony!Gaming 120 hz. is definitely noticeable with my PlayStation. I play a lot of battle royale type games and my KD ratio increased by about 25-30% and my win percentage went up about 10%.Interface is approachable but great with the controller microphone. It’s responsive and the microphone works quickly for opening the PBS kids app for my daughter. The BAD:The shipping was over a week late with no communication on delivery rescheduled and when it did finally show up, it was an elderly couple driving an unmarked white box truck. They dropped the TV off ... MoreThis was a great Black Friday deal! $900?! Well! They’re practically paying me to buy this TV!!!The good:Amazing vivid color BRIGHT tv! It’s responsive and the microphone works quickly for opening the PBS kids app for my daughter. The BAD:The shipping was over a week late with no communication on delivery rescheduled and when it did finally show up, it was an elderly couple driving an unmarked white box truck. They dropped the TV off in a pretty roughed up dirty looking box. Shockingly the TV was not damaged and everything worked out of the box. There were some minor noticeable scratches near the power button but… I tend to be very picky. The tv picture is great… until it’s not. We’ve owned/used it now for just past three months. Just recently we noticed a vertical line on the right hand side of the screen. After power cycling, trying a firmware update and factory resetting this line is still present. I’m sure it’ll get worse over time too.Final Thoughts:This isn’t uncommon for Sony after a bit of researching online. Unfortunately it means taking the tv down and apart and you can clean, maybe replace a couple ribbons/tcon board or it’s the thermally bonded flex cable that has not been attached properly during mfg. I’m assuming since it was a Black Friday deal that these TVs sold had a known mfg. quality issue hence the sale price. The tv honestly could have been a return/refurbished model judging the condition of the box and tv.I used to hold Sony in high regard for TVs. They’ve always been the best looking picture but the most expensive. Unfortunately even for the sale price, I really wish I spent the money on a TV I wouldn’t have to take down and apart to only hopefully fix the issue. I’m pretty sure this is our family’s first and last Sony TV that we will purchase. If you’re a handy person and you don’t mind spending the time and effort into repairs, it’s still not an awful deal. But if you are, you’d be better off buying this off of someone else with the messed up screen for even less than the sale price of $900 and try to fix it knowing there is an issue for sure.
