My husband and I did a bit of research prior to purchasing this TV. It's a great size for us. We are very pleased. We like the gunmetal-grey boarder and feet. The picture is great quality. Our movies are so nice to watch. The sound is good.. although no where near as good as our Marley Get Up Stand Up speaker (to be expected!). We found some apps (Netflix, ABC etc.) didn't work well for us, without an Ethernet cable. Wireless viewing resulted in sound that didn't line up with the picture, and the picture would spaz out every 3 minutes or so). We played around with the display settings to begin with, to achieve the look we like (I think we chose the 'movie' setting). The blacks are really black onscreen. Initial powering on is a bit slow, but subsequent are fine. The ... MoreMy husband and I did a bit of research prior to purchasing this TV. It's a great size for us. We are very pleased. Bought this TV as a replacement for a Panasonic Plasma that we had for 9 years. There are so many features built into this TV, for the price, it blew my mind. It runs on Google TV software, which works perfectly, no lag. Has Google Chrome Cast built into it so that makes watching stuff from other devices in the home on the TV super easy.Setting up this TV could not be easier. I simply spoke to my Android (google) phone and said setup new device and it instantly connected the TV to my Google account and was away. Having saved all of my Netflix and Stan passwords into my Google account in the past meant I did not have to sign in again to those on the TV, it was done for me by Google. Crisp picture, amazing low price for what you get, and looks like a high price model with all the same features. I purchased a sound bar to add to the TV but after hearing how good the speakers are in this TV, maybe I shouldn't have worried.I highly recommend TCL TVs after using this one.

As 4k HDR TVs go, this TCL panel is pretty inexpensive but don't let the cheap price tag fool you, this one punches above its weight. TCL's nearest rival is probably Hisense and I would put this TV on par with anything they've produced, barring their OLED. Colours are vivid and viewing angles are decent. Watching 4k content is a joy with crisp, clear images and unexpectedly decent motion handling for a budget model. The smart TV functionality is all there and it even ships with a free voice-activated remote. Contrast and colour reproduction both fall short of OLED or QLED standards and blacks are not especially deep but that's to be expected at this price range. The speakers are also not particularly impressive, with a distinct tinniness to sound reproduction. Those minor shortcomings aside, though, the TCL 50P8M is an excellent TV for the price and a standout in the value-oriented category.

Got this tv 6 months ago due to its low price. It was easy to set up even though it took a while to get the settings right in order to achieve a satisfactory result on the screen. If you want to use wired headphones need to plug them in and out. When plugged in the tv’s speakers stop working. The headphone port “disappeared” after using it 10 times! The speakers stopped working at the same time. TCL’s technical team verdict was that we caused the problem by plunging in the headphones and washed their hands!Their customer service treated me like an incompetent liar. Can’t connect more than one device through Bluetooth (eg two sets of Bluetooth headphones). They won’t accept that their product was either defective or not attached properly.Cheap tv with terrible ... MoreGot this tv 6 months ago due to its low price. Choice said it was ok so I bought it without going into the store and they delivered it promptly. It was very heavy and took me a month of bin cycles to get rid of the packaging. It has been trouble free and gives a good picture on FHD but lacks scaling skills and shows how bad most of our broadcast SD TV is where it lacks impact and is probably worse than my old Hisense 4k tv. Its android operating system is snappy and full featured with every app you would want or the ability to access a play store and download it. It works well as a computer monitor with crisp 4:4:4 text at 4k/60Hz and a PC color mode that makes photo editing professional. It is a very functional product and shows how tvs have evolved to be more like computers. To be better, I think I need to ... MoreChoice said it was ok so I bought it without going into the store and they delivered it promptly. This size tv would look sexer in a wide screen format if that occurs and the broadcasters definitly need to lift their game and do higher quality free-to-air broadcasts.
Firstly, when I was looking for a new TV, I was specifically looking for a 55 inch TCL. I had seen the 65 inch TCL in a shop, but just thought it was too big.Unfortunately, it seems that everyone else was also after a 55 inch TCL TV and it was almost impossible to find one that was within my price range.A friend recommended Appliances Online, so I had a look, but once again, most 55 inch TV's were sold out, or above my price range.Anyway, I decided to buy the 65 inch TCL, and I am very, very glad that I did.The TV arrived the very next day and even though I was at home by myself, I decided to set it up.I do not advise this - it's definitely a two person job to attach the stands. Also, make sure that you have a suitable TV console or stand, because this TV ... MoreFirstly, when I was looking for a new TV, I was specifically looking for a 55 inch TCL. The picture quality was great out of the box, so I didn't have to make any adjustments at all.To my eyes, the screen is absolutely perfect - absolutely no issues at all with it.Friends who have seen it, are impressed by it.There is one issue that I have experienced, but that comes with playing back MP4 files that I have stored on a PC running Minidlna.Using the streaming input, it wouldn't play back any MP4 files. But if I ran them through mkvmerge, they would play back.BUT...then I discovered some issues with them, which was that I wasn't able to seek forwards or backwards when playing those videos. I also noticed that the file would stop playing back roughly half way through. I'm not sure why this happened, but I have an untested theory that it might be due to file size (4GB).On smaller MKV files (a few GB) it seemed to work flawlessly, but on larger files, it would continue to stop playing. The larger the file got, the more likely it was to stop playing earlier in the video (which is why I think it's related to file size). The easy way around this was to use something like Plex or Kodi installed as an app on the TV (Android). This allows videos to playback flawlessly, but I did hit a snag with surround sound audio.Using Plex or Kodi (even with the Plex add-on within Kodi), I couldn't get surround sound audio to play from my rear surround speakers. This seems to be an issue not with the TV as such, but seems quite common. In my case, the audio is sent to my receiver using an optical cable, mainly because the HDMI ports on my Yamaha receiver only work after it's been turned on for 20-30 minutes.Plugging my media PC into the Yamaha Surround Sound receiver, which connects back to the TV solves this problem, and surround sound works perfectly. All in all, this TV is fantastic. I absolutely love it, and can't recommend it enough.
75P8MR TCL is packed with many latest features thru Android system. The picture quality is good when on FHD or 4K and viewed directly in front, but to my eyes not so clear when viewing from side. TV sound quality is similar to those Korean or Japanese brands if not better. One thing to keep in mind that you need to ensure to select PCM when sync with an external speaker system. The setup is relatively easy, though the unit is a little bulky than expected. It comes with 2 remotes and by the look of the back panel, I don't think it can be hanged on wall. It is a good value TV for budget minded purchaser but wanted a bigger size for the living area and it comes with 3 years home warranty. Overall, happy with the product.
This is my 3rd TCL TV and it's a lot better than the previous two which were a few years older. I bought it as a bedroom TV and the picture quality and features are comparable with our main Samsung Series 7 even though it's a fraction of the price. The picture settings are pretty good straight out of the box, and it came with two remotes - one regular remote and another smaller voice-controlled remote. I've had this unit for a month and never used the voice functions but it is handy for the bedroom as my wife and I can have a remote each in our bedside tables.Netflix is easy to setup and works well. My main gripe is that when the TV is turned off, it remains in a standy mode and the screen has a slight glow. My main gripe is that when the TV is turned off, it remains in a standy mode and the screen has a slight glow. It wasn't noticeable initially, but a few times I've woken up in the middle of the night and thought the TV had been left on but displaying a black image. I couldn't find a solution for this online, so I've resorted to turning the TV off at the power point. This means a much longer start up time turning the TV on as it goes through the Android boot up which takes about a full minute. But it's a lesser inconvenience than a constant glowing screen in the middle of the night. It's also not truly Google Home compatible. Like, you can't tell your Home Mini to "turn the TV on". You have to press a button on the voice remote and then speak your instructions. This takes longer than pressing the buttons on the remote itself, hence I never used it.The above issues aren't deal breakers, and the TV has decent image quality and audio which are most important. It looks great, has the necessary smart features with a brilliant price tag.
I have just bought this model of TV, and I am very disappointed to find that if you are hard of hearing, and plug in a pair of headphones into the headphone socket, it has the following result. The TV speakers are turned off, so nobody else can hear any sound. (only the headphones work) I then bought some blue-tooth headphones hoping that this would solve the problem, but they behave exactly the same silencing the TV speakers. The result is that you can't use headphones if there is anyone else in the room. If you turn up the volume and don't use headphones the sound necessary to be able to hear, when you are hard of hearing makes it unbearable for people with normal hearing. This is a very bad mistake in the design, and needs consideration if you intend purchasing ... MoreI have just bought this model of TV, and I am very disappointed to find that if you are hard of hearing, and plug in a pair of headphones into the headphone socket, it has the following result. I have noticed TCL tv's for a while and of course the price was very tempting but compared to the other more expensive brands, the colours appeared faded.Recently I decided to upgrade my 65 inch tv to a 85 inch, partly because I had a tax return, partly because I read that the best size screen for viewing was multiply the distance from where you sit to watch tv x 0.42 and then get the next biggest screen available. My lounge room is a good size and I sit 5 metres from the wall the tv is mounted on.The calculations were perfect! Here we go, this is about this TCL tv only, I have no knowledge or opinion about any other TCL tv.I stood in the store and watched all the different brand 85 inch screens for ages and focused on leaving price out of the equation. I could have afforded any of them, the OLED screens as well. The colours and contrast are the best I have seen, even during the daylight hours. If you want super black, turn the lights off and close the curtains like they do at the cinema. The blacks are plenty black enough for me. The thing is when you get the tv home away from the store, you don't have all the other screens to compare with or sales staff. BUT, I have to say the staff at JB HIFI were not pushy. It's just that when I am in a store I like to be left alone until I ask for help.Another thing to consider, This screen will deliver as good as the video camera that shot the footage. Crumby camera with slow frame rate will give you motion blur and when I first turned the TCL on I watch some standard def video of a netball match and thought I had made a mistake in buying the TCL, then I went to watch the ashes on the HD channel and was blown away, NO MOTION BLUR WHATSOEVER! Then I watched some 4K on youtube and couldn't believe it!I also love that I can put a USB stick in the tv and record direct and watch later, and it also has the function to record in the future. My wife loves gridiron and we set the TV to record the games every week without us having to worry about setting it up again. Gridiron is on during the middle of the night so she watches it the next day.
