Color is good, size is good. Shipment fast. Fair price. The only thing that is missing and I really liked from the previous jacket version is the gadget to squeeze the wrist from wind and cold.

This jacket is an extremely versatile softshell. That being said it is not a rain jacket nor does it have the warmth of a down/ski jacket by itself. If layered properly underneath with a fleece or down sweater this jacket can be worn down to single digits. That being said this is my go to jacket in 40 degree and below weather, its completely windproof, repels snow, ice and sleet very well (rain will soak into it after a period of time). Does everything a great softshell should.I wear this jacket through most of the Minnesota winter (again properly layered underneath, depending on the temperatures) and have also taken it on a month long geology field course in the southwestern US, it was perfect for blocking the night time winds and keeping me warm while constantly ... MoreThis jacket is an extremely versatile softshell. It still sheds moisture and blocks the wind like it did when it was new.I have also seen the newer versions of this jacket and have heard complaints that the overall quality of North Face products has declined. I can't speak for all of their products but as this jacket is one of those that has become popular among people all over, not just with those who use it as it was designed for, it is now being sold in more places too. That being said I would not be surprised if the quality of this jacket has decreased in the last 2-3 years since I purchased mine.Overall I think this was and most likely still is a outstanding and extremely versatile softshell. It is now just more likely that one may have a defect in it since the North Face has gone to mass marketing these among many of their products.

A very nice jacket: clean lines, simply styled without excess. Mid-weight. Well cut and generously long in the sleeves and torso (I'm 6'4, long-limbed). Windproof as advertised. Exterior material has a pleasant, slightly sanded feel. I particularly appreciate the sleeves not being tapered at the cuffs, so it's easy to pull one's hands through even when wearing base layers. Also important, the neck zips all the way up comfortably without constricting. This isn't the warmest jacket, but there's room to layer a sweater and/or vest underneath in cold weather. "TNF Black" is a dark charcoal gray, which is just the color I wanted. Only one caveat: the upper chest pocket zipper should be about 2" deeper for easier access. Five stars over all.

Great jacket for business or personal. I needed a jacket for traveling in cold climates and not be bulky. This has been perfect. I stay warm and doesn't look like I am going skiing.
I expected more when I ordered this jacket. First, the wrist adjustments do not stay velcroed. Second, the hand pockets should not be mesh on the inside towards the body. What is the reason behind this other than to skimp out on quality. Not everyone who needs a larger chest fit is 6ft plus and has really long arms. Also, the size difference between large and xl is way to much of a size jump. The large was tight over a tshirt and the xl I can fit a hoodie underneath it. Your quality control and lack of good components along with cutting corners to save a buck has turned me onto a clone of this jacket for 1/5th the cost. That jacket actually has a correct fit and better attention to detail while not cutting corners. Fit I chose the next size up from what my dimensions were on the fitting chart. The cuffs ended up measuring perfectly to my forehands. The neckline allows for easy movement without tension. The bust was a little wide but the draw cords can easily make it more snug. Design The inside pockets are made with a mesh material which allows for breathability. Draw cords for the hemline are inside the pockets which is very sleek. Using these draw cords is perfect for blocking the cold outside air. The pockets are rather large inside but it easily allows for slim glove storage. Material The ClimateBlock fabric is very effective in the winter season. It is resistant to rain and snow, very little actually gets absorbed into the jacket. Wearing this jacket, I feel like I stay warm and dry, with my body able to breathe easily. Overall I chose this jacket for the winter season because of it's durability. I wanted something light and slimming without a hoodie that had good mobility for all weather. I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this jacket.
I just bought the black Men's Apex Bionic 3 jacket as it transitions to Fall here in New England. Needed a lighter jacket for those 40° and 50° days than the long and heavy Northface coat I have when its nearing 0°. I love it!!! It's perfect!!! Roomier than the women's cut. I bought a small. I am 32 year old woman, 5'1", and I don't like the women's fit of this jacket because it's too tight to the body. I like my jackets with a little extra room. Yes the sleeves are long on me but that's because it's a Men's jacket and I expected that. I just roll up the sleeves. I'd 100% recommend! Could even layer underneath if I wanted too! Can't wait to wear it
I always wondered why I would see people walking around in just this little jacket in the winter. I purchased one for myself in store in October 2016. I am in love with this jacket. I also purchased a larger coat with this one thinking I would need it when it got cold. The winter has been mild, but when it did get cold, this jacket did better than the larger coat I purchased. I've worn just this jacket almost all winter long. On the colder days, I would wear a sweater beneath and be toasty. The fleece like lining helps keep you warm. I live in Chicago, and the wind here can be a force to reckon with, and I don't even feel it in this jacket. Overall, for my first ever north face item I love it! Get yourself one, you'll love it too.
I got this jacket for my boyfriend a few years back and it is his FAVORITE jacket. I have now purchased it for my father-in-law, because you can dress it up or down, and the logo isn't super bright (compared to the black one), which is what makes it a dressier jacket. He lives in England and this is perfect for their wet, rainy weather! Very warm, but not stuffy.
Had my eye on this jacket for a while. Finally caught a sale at a local retailer and got one. This is a well made, quality jacket. The break in period is quick and easy as I've only had this about 1-2 days but have had the chance to wear in in different temps/weather already. It's a bit snug at first but it'll stretch and move with your body quickly. It's a pretty warm jacket and it holds up well against light sleet, snow, rain. The water beads on the surface similar to TNF rain jackets so it seems like it can tolerate a good amount of light to moderate rain/snow but note according to TNF this jacket isn't waterproof. As for the biggest thing to consider: temperature ranges. I did the "t-shirt test" last night when it was about 32F out and slightly windy . Just a ... MoreHad my eye on this jacket for a while. Just a tshirt under it. It kept me warm but I was still a little chilly and it was a bit drafty. With a long sleeve dress shirt the next morning in 28-30F temps with some light sleet I was dry but could still feel a chill. Standing inside a room at room temp with this jacket and just a t shirt I was sweating within 2 minutes. I live in the Northeast and we've seen temps as low as 9F some days (with feel like temp below 0F). This jacket is not going to keep you warm below freezing temps unless you're layering. You'll need a waterproof outer layer in very wet conditions and you'll need a warm layer under for below 30F. Even in high 30s I was a bit chilly in my arms with a long sleeve dress shirt and t shirt under. So all this said, I can say this jacket is probably best used alone (with a t shirt or long sleeve shirt) in temperatures of 40F and up. With layering (either a rain jacket or hard shell over it) you can probably take this jacket into wet, below 30F weather easily. With layering under it (fleece, hoodie, thermal long sleeve) I'm thinking it can be comfortably warm in dry weather down to 30F . As others have said this jacket does best in the 40F and up chilly range, appears to be weather resistant, and blocks wind well when the cinches and velcro are adjusted correctly. You might notice it takes a bit for the fabric to "warm up" when you first go outside. This makes you feel a bit chilly at first before your body heat moves around the inside of the jacket. This jacket also looks sleek and matches anything. When it's "hoodie weather" out but you want to look a bit classier, this jacket does it. It feels durable and feels high quality. Since it's thin and close fitting you can layer it well which adds to the versatility. It won't keep you warm alone in below 40F, it'll hold off light to moderate rain/snow for a little bit, and it'll block wind as long as you adjust it properly. I give this jacket 5 stars because overall it is a really great, versatile, and comfortable jacket. It's a good balance of weather resistance, warmth, and windblocking.
