The XLite NXT MAX weighs only 510 g (regular size) and has a four-season R-value of 4.5, making it the most versatile, fully rectangular, ultra-lightweight sleeping pad on the market for an even more restful sleep under the stars.

Purchased June '23. Have used this for a backpacking camping trip into the mountains, so being light and super compact it's fantastic! (although a little slippery and easily slide off). Love the thickness, makes for a more comfortable sleep. Then for a solid 10 nights at sea level. It did appear to loose a touch of air, say 25%. Twice I had to re-inflate. My son used it, found it very comfortable, but again, slippery. We ended up wrapping it in a sheet, to prevent the sleeping bag from rolling off.I have a 30 year old original, sent inflating Therm-a-rest that has the fabric top. Works perfectly! I'd happily sacrifice a little more packed volume for the woven top...

(Med/Wide version, though I've seen reviews stating that both pads are heavier than advertised.)I don't like the color, it's not a good shade of yellow, but it's comfortable, it packs down small, and should do the job on my upcoming '23 AT thru-hike.BUT the claimed weight isn't even close to the actual weight! The pad alone is 18.95 ounces, almost a whole ounce heavier than the claimed 18 ounces! The Pad + Stuff Sack is 19.58 ounces, and the whole kit is 21.91 ounces! They're lying to us about one of the most important things about gear; Weight! And if they're lying to us about weight, I'm concerned that the claimed 4.5 R-Value may be off as well...We'll see. Buyer beware.

Love almost everything about this pad, with one massive problem. It's relatively lightweight and packs up small, considering the size and R factor. Excellent warmth and I found it very comfortable, with no noticeable "crinkle" noise. However it leaks like a sieve. I took it out for a few nights in the Sawtooth National Forest (brand new, never used on the trail). It inflated quickly, but even in the 2-3 hours between inflation and me going to bed, it seemed like it lost some air. Fast forward to about 4am and I woke up with my butt on the ground. In about 6 hours it had deflated to roughly 20% of it's air capacity. I reinflated and fell back asleep, but by 8am it had deflated again (maybe 40% capacity). I thought it was a fluke or that maybe I had left the valve ... MoreLove almost everything about this pad, with one massive problem. So I took this in 3 degree weather, app said feels like -8, was up about 1500 feet. Yeah. the ground was so frozen that my tent stakes fused to the dirt. I had no other insulation besides a S2S reactor extreme sleeping bag liner (now I'm buying the fleece one) and a kelty ultra down 20 degree bag (plus my clothing layers). I was a little chilly, but nothing too bad, really. My back was a little cold but not bad enough to lose sleep or even be that uncomfy. The only reason I took off one star is because of the following- so due to being way past its temp limits (which i hear are between 10 and 20) I had it at MAX inflation. and I gotta say you can NOT have this at max inflation. my arm fell asleep when sleeping on my side since at max inflation the thing is a rock I ... I will update this when I take it in some more fair testing conditions but I feel like the baffling and whatnot doesn't help enough, you need it deflated. maybe that's working as intended but its a bit annoying. As for the width its awesome. It takes up the entire floor of my Xmid 1 so I could roll around all night and not worry. The pump sack takes a bit and isn't particularly fun but deal with it i guess.Overall- shockingly warm for the weight, but stiff on the comfort side for my tastes. Hopefully I'll update this when I test it partially deflated.
Coming from a 20" wide Neoair that's 15 years old, I wanted a bit more comfort while not taking the Sea to Summit weight penalty. The Sea to Summit wins all the reviews but too many fail early. Their Lifetime Warranty takes care of that, but it is an ongoing hassle. So, the next best choice is the XLite NXT. Took me a night to dial in the correct firmness, but the wide 25" over the 20" was immediately obvious. Once I watched a quick vid I understood the new valve, and you then wonder why it took so long to get a one-way valve sorted on Neoair pads. Anyway. There are only two things wrong with this pad: the price, and the pump sack. The pump sack is too heavy, too inflexible, the wrong shape, too small, and the fitting's lid (why do we even need one?) is too hard to ... There are only two things wrong with this pad: the price, and the pump sack. The pump sack is too heavy, too inflexible, the wrong shape, too small, and the fitting's lid (why do we even need one?) is too hard to open up/close. Sure, it's the Max Wide. But it took too long. My S2S one would have done it in half the time with half the weight and a third more volume. The pump sack is an afterthought that got no respect from its designers. They try and get the pad down to the lightest and then they pretty much just add a heavy plastic pump sack. Such an odd failure from a company that's otherwise so good. Anyway - I've got the insulation, width, and weight all sorted - happy tr/camper.
This sleeping pad has replaced my old sleeping pad, a high quality brand, since using it. It took 8 minutes to fully inflate with the inflation bag. In my opinion, very quick. It held air perfectly even after a few nights sleeping on it. It is very light and easily compresses into the bag. Although light, it is durable. I put it through the paces with a few unintended pokes and no holes were detected. The deflation valve is great. It allows the ability to quickly deflate completely with no latent air trapped in any pockets. All of the elements of this product have turned it in to my current go to for sleeping pads.
I cannot in good conscience give this pad 5 stars, even though I love the feel and comfort of it, because weight is one of the greatest factors when it comes to buying the right gear. This pad is advertised to weigh 18 oz. for the Med/Wide size, but the pad alone weighs 18.95 oz. and 19.58 oz. with just the pad and stuff sack! But if you're planning on taking the entire kit with you; the pad, stuff sack, pump sack, and repair kit, you're looking at a grand total of 21.91 oz.!Therm-A-Rest needs to get their weights in order because we are being lied to! These ounces make a BIG difference when you load your pack up, so when you buy an 18 oz. pad and it's closer to 20-22 oz., it's very frustrating!Like I said earlier, it appears to be a great pad, it's comfortable, ... It's false advertising, and I can't comprehend how this even happened. My only idea is that the factory is making them wrong, and therefore heavier, and that Therm-A-Rest used an old prototype to measure the weight.Whatever the cause, I do recommend this sleeping pad, BUT BE WARNED, they're heavier than advertised! So take that into consideration.
I had the upgrade from my big agness because i got a quilt and needed insulation (sort of, as if im not a fair weather backpacker) anyways, I like that this ones a) insulated b) lighter then competition and c) is ultra comfy for a just a fraction more weight. Did I need a wide sleeping pad? No not really, but moosejaws a cool company and i had rewards points and got it on sale, and im of the camp if you sleep better backpacking and are more comfortable in general it will make carrying your pack easier regardless of weight. So far ive only used it twice, it seems comparable in durability and ease of inflation to a big agness air pad, which is what i had before and my boyfriend has, but with the added security of being insulated. I used to be a big fan of MSR/Thermarest and my recommendations for their products resulted in thousands and thousands of dollars in sales (can be proven). Then I saw this pad on sale in a store so I decided to upgrade. The packaging was a simple transparent and tight plastic bag so it looked like a refurbished pad. That was OK with me since many it could be from an open box or a simple valve fix. But guess what? There was DRIED BLOOD on the pad!I sent an email to support and from the reply, it's obvious Thermarest/MSR will do just anything to avoid fixing issues, even tho it could put our lives at risk! The guy, Steve, was very uncooperative, and brought things that were not even related, just to avoid facing the issue. I asked him to forward the issue to a ... I asked him to forward the issue to a superior level but he just ignored it and never replied from there. Maybe I should bring this to the health dept. at the government. We'd see how fun Thermarest/MSR would have from getting flak and fines... That's what I'm about to do and will post everything on social media. I feel betrayed by a company I've supported and sent tons of sales while asking nothing in return. Besides that, dried blood on BRAND NEW gear is totally unacceptable.I
Thermarest Neoair Xlite Max All-Season sleeping pad is truly an upgrade from standard sleeping pads. First, it is wider by a few inches than most, which doesn't seem like a lot but it does make a difference in that it never felt like I'd slide off the pad. Second, it's very quiet, doesn't make that rubbery sound that most pads make when you move or change positions. Third, the air chambers are smaller and run the width of the pad instead of the length of the pad making it feel more like a solid pad, no long air chambers to roll around on. It rolls up very small and compact to fit into a bag that takes up very little room in my backpack. Alternatively, you can just roll it and bungie onto the backside of your pack. It comes with the air sack that attaches to the valve for filling easily. The valve is out of the way at the far bottom corner of the pad. Total weight is 1 lb 2 oz which is very doable for the average backpacker. This pad was labeled regular width, tall. My husband is 5'10" (weight 165 lbs) and had plenty of length and width. I'm 5'1" (140 lbs). We are older hikers/backpackers (68 and 70) so comfort is high priority for us. Once again, it is wider than most pads so is comfortable turning/rolling over without running out of pad, and no rubbery noise! Quiet pad. Definitely recommend to friends looking for an upgrade in a sleeping pad, young and old.
