The Tokina Cinema ATX 16-28mm T3, Canon EF Mount is a version of Tokina's wide-angle DSLR zoom lens, re-engineered for video use and capable of producing images suitable for 4K capture. It covers full-frame 35mm image sensors and is a parfocal lens, enabling you to maintain focus throughout a zoom move. The Cinema ATX 16-28mm can open up to a T3.0 aperture throughout its zoom range, eliminating the need for exposure compensation on the tight end of the zoom. The lens design also reduces the breathing and image shifting sometimes encountered while zooming and focusing. This lens is in excellent condition with only the lightest signs of use. The optics are clean and clear with no marks or scratches. There is an extremely minor amount of dust within the lens. The lens barrel shows only the lightest cosmetic marks. The focus ring is smooth and in great condition. The lens mount is in good condition.

The only thing holding this lens back is the weight, but if you're used to using a heavier setup or ok with the lens possibly being heavier than the camera, this is an incredible lens. 16-28 is a nice wider angle range and it covers full frame cameras. Crisp all the way through.

Even at F4 or f8 it produces soft edges. Center is sharp though at all f:stops. Surprisingly very little vignetting wide open. And zero choked down to f8. Solid build for the price and smooth manual focusing. Easy to use manual focus switching allows you to keep your eye in the viewfinder while switching from AF to manual. I wouldnt use this for astrophotography though as the stars on the edges will be noticeably soft. But for the price its a great lens

I bought this to use on my Sony FS-7 via a Metabones EF to Emount adapter. I was sad to learn that the focus changes on this configuration when zooming. I tried several other mount adapters, including 2 that were not speed boosters, but it still lost focus by varying amounts when zooming. I put the lens on a Blackmagic camera with a native EF mount and the focus did not change while zooming. As the FS-7 is my main camera I sent the lens back.

I purchased this a year ago and have shot a couple short films and documentaries with it. This is a true cinema lens, parfocal in design (a must), and the image quality is what you would expect it to be at this price point. Pairing this with a Canon C100 Mk II, I have had some spectacular results. Fairly closes focusing, for a zoom lens, and it's a great range to use in interview situations where you want to vary it up between a medium shot and a closeup from a single position. The pulls were very smooth, with a fair amount of damping so that it doesn't slip around. It's quite bulky on a C100, but that's to be expected. The 114mm barrel fits great with my matte box and 4x5.65 filters. Tokina knows their market. The 114mm barrel fits great with my matte box and 4x5.65 filters. Tokina knows their market. There is no other lens quite like this, for the price, well, until Canon came out with their 18-80, which looks nice and is a similar price point. However, that's not a 114mm standard cinema lens, nor does it have the T stop speed that this has. Canon does have a more practical range however. Really looking forward to seeing what else Tokina releases. I should note that I pair this with the Sigma 18-35 1.8 art lens, and it is a decent combination. I have the Tokina cinema 11-16, and that's great too, but it's zoom range is not all that helpful. It's an ultra wide. Very happy with the purchase, except for the little cheap nylon bag that comes with it. It fits quite tight, and is a pain to slide on and off as it catches on the gears. 4.5 stars.
I bought this to use with my Sony FS-7 camera. I had hoped to use my Metabones Speed Booster EF to Emount adapter. Unfortunately, the focus changes when changing the zoom with that configuration. I tried several other adapters but all had varying degrees of the back focus problem. I also tried it on a Blackmagic Production camera which had a native EF mount. I did not see the back focus problem with that camera. My advice is to only use it with a camera that has a native EF mount. As my main camera has an E mout I sent mine back.
Nicely put together EF mount lens. Checked other reviews on youtube prior to ordering and the two things I didn't see mentioned often are (1) the focus throw is approximately 110 degrees and (2) there are no electrical contacts so f stop is not available on cinema camera view screen nor recorded in metadata. Neither is an issue, just something to be aware of.
I love this lens. I didn't use wide lenses enough in my work to justify getting the best glass, so I settled on the Tokina. Glad I did, because I am using it more than I originally thought. Great value. Not as sharp as I would like, but it is good enough for what I need. Enjoy. - Stephen Paul Photography
I originally saw this lens line up at NAB in 2015. The action of the lenses on site were silky smooth and felt great. The build of the lenses seemed very robust and well put together. The barrels of the 50-150 and 16-28 are very large. Larger than most cinema lenses but surprisingly lightweight for their size. I purchased the 50-150 and upon first use the lens felt less than silky smooth. The action on the focus felt stiff like metal on metal contact and the sound the barrel made when turning the focus was unusually loud. The only action on the lens that felt correct was the iris. I sent it back and chalked it up to a bad factory lens. Unfortunately the 2nd lens that came was even worse. I was annoyed at Tokina's lack of information and customer service regarding ... MoreI originally saw this lens line up at NAB in 2015. I sent it back and chalked it up to a bad factory lens. Unfortunately the 2nd lens that came was even worse. I was annoyed at Tokina's lack of information and customer service regarding this issue. They just wanted to send me another (3rd) lens. I opted out and since have not tried to purchase another Tokina Cinema ATX lens. I hope it was just a bad batch of lenses, but for $ bucks, I wasn't interested in taking my chances again. It's unfortunate, because for the price point, no one else is making fast zoom lenses in cinema housings like these. Maybe I'll take a look at the 2nd generation of these down the line. Got some kinks to work out it seems.
I used this lens with Ursa mini Pro. I like it because the image quality is very good. The lens is heavy and the focus gear is strong to turn. The lens is compact and the image is sharper and without evident aberrations. The maximum aperture is only T3 (F2.8) but sufficient in the movie location where the light is very important. I like it!
I purchased this to replace my Canon 16-35mm that I had dropped..I was looking for a cheaper replacement and decided on the Tonika after reading a few reviews. WOW!...really really great lens, fast, sharp and very well made. I find it well built and feels great to work with. Id say its just as good as the Canon it replaced!! I now use it very often for weddings and commercial photography...works a treat and well worth the investment. Id recommend this lens for anyone with the same needs.
