Good little rod for the money. I fish it with a little Penn Fathom 12 overhead reel for snapper with bait. I wanted this length and medium action so I could use it with sliders and inchiku lures in a pinch as well. Haven't done that as yet but it seems bendy enough in the tip and along the blank that it could be used for that.I've also used it to strayline baits down a berley trail reasonably effectively. Won't be fishing this rod in particularly deep water over 40 metres say (doesn't have a gimbal knock either) as the medium action wouldn’t suit a really heavy sinker, but it seems perfect for the Hauraki Gulf up to that depth.Would also be a nice little rod for kids with a level wind reel perhaps too.

I bought my rod 3 weeks ago and have landed a multitude of plate worthy fish and even reeled in a 1.7m bull shark, these rods take the worry of it snapping out of the equation your main emphasis will become solely focused on will my line snap. 12/10 (the rod will handle heavy line just ensure you’re well aware of the drag setting on the reel and you’ll run into no issues.)

Beautiful rod that lasted 2 sessions thanks to me being a little too over enthusiastic and under attentive with my casting. Had the line wrapped around the tip after a fight with a 3m flatty. The next cast saw a little passion along with a snapped line and a splash in the distance. Will be buying again!

This is the second ugly stick ive purchased & the price was a bargain & the customer support is second too none, the guy's looked after all my needs & when they weren't too sure about exactly what i was looking for. It was a good rod, caught my share of Dhu Fish, Snapper, a 0.5 metre and heaps of Skippy over 0.45 metres. Certainly handles the pressure. Unfortunately the runner on the tip has weakened and the plastic part has fallen out.
Very nice rod. Flexible, but sturdy. Ugly Sticks are usually pretty good rods. Great for bait fishing, but probably not too good for lures and plastics due to how whippy it is. Suits bait fishing perfectly. I matched it with a Daiwa Saltist 2500 spin reel. Fantastic outfit.
I was walking about 3m behind this woman when I failed to notice she stopped. My UGLY STICK poked her in the back of the head and got tangled in her hair. She got MAD. But the rod stood up to a wild thrashing and my new girlfriend got hit with a UGLY STICK.
Really liking this fishing rod for its strength and bite feel. Using an ABU 550 on it with only 7kg line but have found the use and feel perfect for my needs chasing flathead. Then again Ugly stick have always been a rod i feel comfortable with.. sturdy and resilient.
I got sick & tired of expensive carbon rod tips breaking, so i bought an ugly stick to get away from issue. I haven't caught a large fish on it yet. But it has handled bass, snapper & flathead superbly. The light action rod is light in the tip but has heaps of grunt down low. It works soft plastics no problems at all. It isn't as light as the carbon rods, but only minor issue (i took 1 star off because of weight), I have flicked lures all day with it chasing bass in the Brisbane river.
Great for fishing lures or bait. Resilient to small nicks and bumps, light solid one piece construction ideal rod for boat/kayak/canoe or shoreline and tough to handle the big ones. Faultless and unbeatable price I’m going to get another one for my grandson.
