I’ve been looking for kicks that were good for walking & hiking the Michigan winters; something that would keep my feet warm and dry in snow, but not give the granola vibe.Yesterday the temp was 5 degrees in the mitten state, and I have no complaints. These Vans are not stereotypical skater shoes. They are super comfy and check all the right boxes for walking, hiking, and staying warm in weather. I wear them all day and really like them. If you are looking for warm and comfy, but don't want the typical hiker vibe, these are the right shoes for you.

I love that vans has come out with products that work for activities outside of skating so I don't have to shop around as much. I've tried Columbia and Altra for hiking shoes and they never fit right or the quality doesn't last. I bought these for summer hiking after loving the high top versions. Usually I can wear them right out of the box and go on a 5 mile hike with no problems. I take them to muddy & slippery waterfall areas and the shoes stay dry and have great traction. These ones have a great fit so far and I love the style. Not too bulky but not too feminine either. I am excited to see what they can do.

I was excited to see such a cute color way in MTEs that will hopefully serve me well in icy winters. Unfortunately, the second time I put these on, the pull tab just ripped out as I was adjusting them. I would hope that these features were more practical but with how poorly it was attached, it's clear that they're just for aesthetic. I'll keep wearing them, because I still love them, there's nothing functionally wrong with them, but if you're not going to properly attach a feature, just don't have it be a part of the shoe...

These are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn in my entire life. I own many vans and know my size so sizing was not the issue. I would show pictures of my blisters but that would be gross. The shape in the front is too stiff and made walking uncomfortable within the first 5 minutes of use. I really wanted to like these shoes.
These shoes are a win! I got these shoes for my husband, a surfer who's only worn flip flops or skate /street vans. He wasn't down for a typical hiking brand and was fine hiking in his slip on Vans but now wears these Ultrarange exclusively. Thank you for Vans for making an outdoor hiking shoe for those that don't want to look all techy hiker. He says these shoes offer way more support to hike in, too. They've held up great with daily rocky ElNino hiking and are a staple in his shoes now!
Overall really happy with these shoes. I am a women's 8.5 typically and these felt true to size. I recently took them on a trip to Ireland and they were good for walking around cities and also some outdoor activity/light hiking. They got a bit muddy/dirty but they clean up really well. They are becoming my regular dog walking shoes too. They are warm and keep my feet dry.

However, I just use them as a casual/daily wear shoe so I am not using them for any demanding activities like rough terrain hiking, for example. I find the shoes to be comfortable and really have no complaints as to their fit and general feel.I did have an issue with the tongue on the left shoe where it would constantly slide to the left and never stay centered. I'm not really sure what the cause of this was since the right shoe tongue stayed perfectly in place. Bought these about 2 months ago. Rubber on toe is already to separate from the suede. Outsides the balls of my feet is separating from the suede. Logo on heel of left shoe has come off. THE SHOELACES COME UNTIED CONSTANTLY! I'll admit, I'm extremely hard on my shoes and gear. I was hoping that the $120 would reflect on quality. It simply does not. The other MTE Vans are AWESOME!!!! Exceeded my expectations. But these light weight, warm weather shoes seem to be made for pantywaists and desk jockeys.
These shoes were not as low profile as I had hoped. I went up half a size and they fit well but they seemed too clunky for a summer shoe and the laces didn’t seem to suit the overall aesthetic. They definitely offer more support than typical Vans but they fell short on the cool factor for me. I kept taking them out and trying them on but I ended up returning them.
I wanted some vans styling that were more winter ready for the rainy pacific northwest and the Ultra Range EXO MTE-1 delivered! Excellent water resistance for those wet winter days, warm but light weight. The only negative I would say is that they were a bit tight for my normal shoe size so you might want to think about sizing up. They took a bit to break in but once they did, they are super comfy.
