(Rewarded Review) A well engineered, precise and easy to use torque wrench!

I was very pleased to be invited by Canadian Tire to test this new product offering (the Wera 1/2" Drive Click-Torque C3 Wrench). I've only tested it for about a month. But, my impression is that this Torque Wrench is a solid product. The first thing that you will notice when taking the product out of its packaging (that is recyclable … good ESG points to you Canadian Tire) is that the tool comes in a very sturdy looking and feeling two-piece plastic case to store and protect the tool when not in use. The case has a very sturdy and secure tab on its top end that enabled me to easily hang it on my garage wall (beside my Canadian Tire Maximum 48-piece Impact Socket set – product number 058-91465-4) for very easy access to the tool when needed. The case has a very sturdy and secure tab on its top end that enabled me to easily hang it on my garage wall (beside my Canadian Tire Maximum 48-piece Impact Socket set – product number 058-91465-4) for very easy access to the tool when needed. I hate having to waste time hunting around for tools! The unique feature of the case is that all four side edges of the bottom piece of the case (that slides into the top piece when storing the tool) are fully ribbed from the top to bottom end of the case. This provides a very secure tight fit that gives me confidence that the tool will not slide out of the box and get damaged. Excellent German over-engineering that many of you may appreciate. Not all torque wrenches (or tools) are this easy to securely store!Taking the tool out of its case you will notice that it is hefty (weighing in at just over 3 pounds) indicating that it is manufactured using solid parts. This tool is German engineered and appears to be manufactured to the strict standards one expects from German products. This wrench is very well designed ergonomically and feels very well-balanced in my hands and fits in my hand quite nicely. The wrench is very easy to use. To set your desired torque, simply pull out the knob on the butt end of the tool and twist the handle grip clockwise. It has a very easy to read main and fine scales (in both pounds and Newton Metres) with a bright white background and black scale values located just above the handle grip. It’s torque range is from 40-200 N-m / 30-146 lbs-ft. You will hear clearly audible signals and feel very tactile triggers as you twist the handle grip to set the torque. When you reach your desired torque, push the knob on the butt end of the tool back in to lock in the torque setting. The documentation that came with my tool says that the settings are precise to ± 3%. This is well within the tolerance that I need for my primary use of torquing the wheels on my vehicles when I change over from summer to winter wheels / tires. The wrench also has a very audible tactile trigger signal when the set torque is reached. It also has a tab switch on the business end of the wrench (like those on ratchet wrenches) to enable you to torque from the left side of a bolt (rather than the right side … should your access be limited). But, this feature should not be used as a breaker bar feature – as that could damage the internal mechanisms of this precision tool. And, remember to re-set your torque wrench setting back to zero before putting the tool back into its case for storage. For some reason, this particular wrench comes with a minimum torque setting of 30 lbs-ft (40 N-m) for storage. This is my only nit-picky issue … as I am used to torque wrenches with a zero setting for storage.I was very impressed that the wrench has a rubber piece just above the handle that serves to protect the tool from damage when you set it down while you work and also to keep the tool from rattling around in the case when it is put away for storage. This is a tool maker that really thinks about everything! My “lesson learned” in putting the tool back in its case was to first put the tool back into the bottom section of the case (the one without the tab on its end) … putting it in grip end first. This will enable the tool to properly seat into the bottom case (you may have to jiggle the case around a bit to enable the rubber protector to fully slip into the case). But, once properly fit in, the bottom case section will easily slip into the top case (the one with the tab on the end) for safe storage.I am very impressed by this torque wrench. Anyone who appreciates good quality tools will recognize that this is a fine tool that is well-designed and well-made.Congratulations to Canadian Tire for continuing to seek out (and add to its broad range of product offerings) high quality tools for those customers who appreciate quality.

The quality of this tool is evident, the large diameter handle and heavy oblong shaft give it a robust feel. The adjustment dial clicks smoothly at each fine calibration, the downside is that the fine calibration window is in Newton-Metres, whereas Pound-Feet are common in North America. The gross calibration scale window includes both N-M and lb-ft, and if you are looking for more precision, you can find conversion tables/calculators online. The wrench performed well in torquing wheel nuts on my vehicle to 80 lb-ft with a nice click release, however the standard length WERA sockets available as a set in store, in combination with the large diameter handle barely allowed the wrench to clear the vehicle fender. A deep socket would have been a better option. This is ... MoreThe quality of this tool is evident, the large diameter handle and heavy oblong shaft give it a robust feel. This tool is very well made and justifies the price. Pull out the handle and adjust the torque 1 ft/lb at a time. Lock the handle back in and the torque is set. The 20" handle gives you enough leverage to tighten the nuts. I used this to change my tires and I could not be happier. With the build quality and ease of use, this tool should last me a lifetime.

Very happy with this purchase. My ethos is that if you buy cheap you buy twice. This is a really decent bit of kit, well made and well designed. An excellent addition to my toolbox.

Well Made & Works Great

Has a very nice feel and its easy to set torque value, Has a nice loud click with good feedback. My only nitpic is the fine adjustment scale is only in newton meters. For example, you cant dial in an exact 72 ft/lb torque setting....but its a simple conversion.. Also very accurate, my sample's calibration was under 1% tolerance.

Home use only for 3x years - no issues.Wera does not advise to use this as a breaker bar, see picture.Otherwise, classic design - dont forget to set it back to 40Nm during storage every time. Otherwise the spring get loose...
