Disappointment for Hoka for the first time

I ordered two pairs of these for my wife. The first pair was strange. The left foot and the right foot were in different shapes. The left foot turned inwards a lot more than the right foot. So I ordered another pair. This second pair looked more normal. We went on a 2-week walking trip. The folded section of the tongue of the left boot kept digging into her ankle bone. It was very painful. Since we had been happy with Hoka for more than 10 years, we did not expect any problems and did not bring another pair. Big mistake. She kept wearing them for 10 days, making adjustments in various ways to lace the boots. The only way to cope is to NOT lace the ankle islets, which caused the foot to move around in the boot and that was hazardous to walk on rocky terrains. I've tried SO MANY hiking boots. I thought the La Sportiva's I bought would work but when I started hiking more than 3 miles in them, after a long break-in period, my feet hurt. I practically gave up on hiking boots and figured I'd just wear my Hoka light trail running shoes for hikes. But I decided to hike Mount Kilimanjaro next summer and need to have hiking boots for the summit day that can get as cold as -25 Fahrenheit. I hiked 6 miles with 2,100 feet of elevation gain and loss on a tricky trail with roots, rocks, and bouldering in these boots yesterday and my feet were in heaven. These are wearable right out of the box. They're just what I hoped they'd be: like my super cushioned running Hokas but with the stability of a boot. Hoka no longer excellent without wide sizes.

Hoka is now disappointing and I think deserve a low star review for bad fit! I wore these boots the past 3 years and they were great. In a wide size. The cushioning helped with foot pain I’d been suffering BUT, for some bizarre reason Hoka has decided not to accommodate those of us with wide feet anymore. SO disappointing! I’ve had to replace with a men’s boots (only speedgoat was worth trying and I don’t love them either. More a running shoe than hiking boot - already have trail runners) and of course the smallest size was half a size too big so not a great option but I really need the cushioning which is about the only good thing I can now say about Hoka boots. Pity. The soles do wear down a little faster than others (but maybe that’s to be expected with the ... MoreHoka is now disappointing and I think deserve a low star review for bad fit! Haven’t been able to rewaterproof although I’ve tried with nikwax and others. HOKA - Reconsider your decision to not accommodate we active women with wide feet - there are plenty of us out here!! Don’t be width-ist!

I've been prescribed Hoka plush shoes for my Sesamoiditis injury recovery, and I wanted a waterproof pair- so, here I am trying out the Kaha 2. My first pair for recovery was the Stinson 7's, which worked perfectly, and I can say my foot has greatly improved. I've worn them down though and they don't keep me dry in the rain, so...Back to the Kaha 2, I ended up ordering three different pairs before finding the right pair for me. I wore 8.5's (I'm normally an 8) in Stinson, but 8.5 in Kaha were too big. So, I ordered an 8, and they were great- except for the pain I got on the top of my left foot. I'd read some reviews complaining about this same issue, however, it was only one of the shoes in my situation, so I decided to try another pair of 8's and so far so good. I'd read some reviews complaining about this same issue, however, it was only one of the shoes in my situation, so I decided to try another pair of 8's and so far so good. No weird rubbing, just comfort and hopefully protection from the elements. While they don't seem to be quite as plush as the Stinson, I have been very pleased and comfortable. I don't lace them up all the way, so that I can slide my feet in and out, as I intend on them being my everyday shoes rather than for hiking alone. I'm so glad that I didn't give up, as the second pair of 8's seems to be my Goldilocks. Plus, I find the solid black option more appealing and versatile, so a little bonus there. Hoka, if you're listening, there's a market for people with foot injuries that would love to have your plush soles but as more casual and stylish shoes, just saying. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's willing to collaborate;).

Non-inclusive warranty process, but I love the shoe for work
29 July 2024

Just past 60 days of wear and these have a defect where the seam is coming apart on the upper toe box area. I bought these after one week at my horticulturist, outdoors job because my feet were in so much pain. They've helped a ton and I love them, but I was disappointed in the quality after only a couple months. I reached out to Customer Service about a return/exchange and since I'm past 60 days I have to send these in for an evaluation that could take weeks before I'm offered a refund or replacement. I rely on these shoes daily for work and the agent suggested I purchase a new pair now and then "try to return these in hopes of a refund". I cannot afford to purchase a new pair without a refund first so this system seems flawed and only feasible for wealthier ... MoreJust past 60 days of wear and these have a defect where the seam is coming apart on the upper toe box area. Not water proof - dangerous boots
27 January 2024

I am a Hoka fan and have 4 pair of various, not water proof hikers. This is the first waterproof boot style I purchased. I am disappointed that HOKA is just outright dishonest about these boots being waterproof. I wore them on a winter hike yesterday, the snow was not over any portion of the boot. Nevertheless the material on the outside was soaked through an my feet where damp. Also, I think they are dangerous and should come with a warning. If you don't use the ankle hooks, it will bulge out, grab the other shoe and slam you to the ground. It happened to me 4 times and I fell twice. I never fall and I hike around 1,000 miles a year. I didn't realize what was happening until I got off the trail, I couldn't figure out what was happening. Overall a Good Boot!
16 October 2024

I needed stability shoes, because of the need for arch support while thru hiking the Colorado Trail. Stability shoes in trail runners & hiking boots are hard to find. I was hopeful when I purchased these because of the insane cushioning that is Hoka's characteristic feature. They ended up helping my damaged/hurting arches. They are a very supportive/cushioned boot.My critiques:- When I first put them on the back of the metal lace holder at the top of the shoe was digging into my ankle bone. However, within a week or two, somehow this stopped being a problem.- Tread wears down quickly. :(- I purchased the Castlerock/ Coastal Shade color and they always appear dirty. Even after I try to clean the gore-tex, they look permanently dirty.

These shoes are expensive so they would be good right?

Unfortunately, after wearing for only 6 hours my feet were hurting and mostly at the toes. I was hoping I could get a full day without any foot aches. My other Hokas (transport) are pain free than these boots, even after a 14 hour day on my feet. These boots should be as comfortable but my feet don't agree.I gave two stars for the color and looks. I got the purple one and loved the look. It's only good for 2 hours tops for me. I can't speak on if they are water proof.I was really hoping these would be worn out for my trip to a few national parks this year but I will be wearing regular shoes and returned these ones. Waterproof, laces broke first month

100% WATERPROOF! (6 mos of very regular use) I’ve used in muddy swamps and have been submerged up to the top of my boots many times. Very impressed! Not a drop of water (or swamp mud) has ever gotten in. Can’t imagine living without them. Got them so I wouldn’t be restricted to dry areas only or affected by sudden rainfall on trails. Great grip and traction due to Vibram which is an important safety issue for me. I have chronic plantar fasciitis (high arches), heel spurs and Morton’s neuroma’s in both feet. I couldn’t walk a mile for years without significant pain. These make multiple mile hikes over rocks, up foothills, across creek beds, over thick tree roots and trekking thru muddy swamps - for the most part - painless. Paid full price for top quality hiking boots and expected the laces to at least last 1 month. That’s why 4 stars. What gives HOKA? These are the best hiking boots I've ever purchased including four pair of different brands in the past 10 years -- all of which ended up donated to thrift stores. They are truly waterproof, I've worn them daily for the past four months and they still look like new. The soles grip in icy conditions, they're also good in slush and deep snow. The cushioning is great, my feet never hurt or get tired. I hike on trails, gravel, sand, steep inclines and rocky surfaces; these boots work well no matter where I'm hiking. Michelle McNeff in the Reno store is an amazing saleswoman, she had several customers the day I went in, she gave all of us individualized advice and even showed me a new way to lace my shoes to provide greater comfort.
