The Cardo Slim has pretty good speakers, JBL. The boom mic works well enough on my Z1R Nomad helmet that my wife was able to hear me very wellin a phone conversation. The FM radio receiver does not seem to be able to scan in very many stations though. When the FM is playing however, the clarity is crystal clear as is the music mode. I have not used the unit in the road as yet so, I cannot review the actual purpose of the units. The pieces were simple enough to install. But, the way the boom mic is designed to grab hold and stick to your helmet liner is pretty cheap and I lost a clip on day one. It is not replaceable part per Cardo Support so, it is stuffed into a pocket on my helmet neck curtain for now. It is extremely complicated to understand even how to turn it ... MoreThe Cardo Slim has pretty good speakers, JBL. The Cardo Connect software is very unimpressive and of little help. Seems I must turn it off to get back to other screen. Setup instructions that came with it are awful. Very vague images showing fingering of buttons. There are as many combinations of button presses as there are card game hands. Might never fully understand how to use this thing. But, I hope it is better that using hand gestures and yelling to let my wife know that I have to stop for gas etc. Using on 2007 BMW K1200GT for now.

This is really a great headset. However, be sure your helmet is on the list if you want Trouble Free installation. I knew my Schuberth modular wasn’t listed but I also have a Shoei modular that is, so I decided to chance it and see if I could make it work. Installation in the Shoei was straight forward and it works well but the microphone ends up being very close to my lips and I think that makes it hard for the system to understand what I am saying. It responds much better if I lift the chin bar and move the mic away but I can’t do that while riding. The battery pack still won’t stay on all the time, but that’s my fault. I’ll probably take it off and install it in a Scorpion open face I have laying around. I should have gotten one of the models that is all one unit, they clamp on thicker helmets and would fit better but might create more wind noise since they stick out of the side of the helmet much farther.I’m still happy with the headset since the sound quality is so good. Others have said it’s not loud enough but placement of the speakers is critical, once I got mine in the right spot I have no trouble hearing the gps and radio. I even got the Bluetooth to connect to my phone and GPS at the same time! Also I think a full face helmet with fixed chin bar would have more space for the microphone and it would respond better. You might also consider using the Free installation offered at your local Cycle Gear store! I couldn’t because my helmet isn’t on the approved list.

For the last year I have been researching Comm. systems for my full face lanesplitter helmet. Talking to friends, watching F9 videos about recommended models/brands, reading reviews on F9 such as this one. Finally made the decision to order this Packtalk Slim dual set with a friend and split on the cost. Upon receiving the item (which arrived quickly) I was so eager to test it out that I installed it in my helmet, to find out that a firmware updated is needed before use, which was easy (yet time consuming) on the Cardo website. My friend who I split the purchase with is without a computer so I tried to complete the firmware update for him as well, but there is an issue with the charging port (micro USB) on the unit and had trouble connecting to the computer. I had read that other riders who purchased from F9 also had this issue, seems that it is a manufacturing error on Cardo's end. I will be returning the item due to this issue. For the unit that did not have the production error, I tested inside my house as it was installed in my helmet, the JBL speakers produce very poor sound quality, that would likely be very difficult to hear while riding.Other friends comm. systems which I have tested such as the SENA SMH-5 function as good (or better given the USB port issue) than this Cardo at a fraction of the cost.Really hoping the Fortnine will not charge me the return fee on this item as it is defected.

My son and I split the duo pack with the intention of using it for the communication capabilities for the odd time we ride together, but mainly to be used as a music player and to enable calls/texts while riding.Installation wasn't too complicated. While my helmet wasn't fully compatible, I was able to modify it a bit to get the Slim to fit.The comm functions seem to work fine after we got used to how to set things up.The music playing function works quite well as long as your phone isn't buried too far away. While mine works fine, my son has to keep his phone up in his chest pocket or it breaks up occasionally. While mine works fine, my son has to keep his phone up in his chest pocket or it breaks up occasionally. (mine is iPhone, his is Samsung). As far as volume/sound quality goes I'd say it's quite good but the quality of your helmet and the amount of wind buffeting you get while riding is going to affect it. I use a cheap modular helmet, so at highway speeds the sound isn't great unless i crank the volume to the max. If I duck down behind the windshield, it gets much better. The 'Hey Siri' and 'Hey Cardo' commands seem to work fine.Water resistance seems to be good as well. I've put about 1000km on using the Slim with about 100km of that being in heavy rain. The major problem I had with mine though is that the micro USB port got loose and actually broke right out of the unit, so after a couple charges it was toast. While that was highly disappointing, Cardo customer service was quick to respond and send me a new unit once I put my broken one into the mail. I would have expected a unit coming at a premium price like this would not have had this issue, but these things can happen and they fixed the problem right away.So in the end I"m happy with the unit... USB port issue aside, the build quality seems to be top notch and the features all work as advertised.

Provided several test cases to Cardo, as stated before, they were not able to resolve it (includes reinstalling firmware and updating App on phone).Voice commands was important and now that it does not work, I should have kept my Sena SMH5.
I've been running the packtalk slim on my Shoei Neotec 2 helmet for a couple months now, every day. So far no issues as far as rain or cold in the use. Cost is rather high, but this along with the packtalk bold system are the only ones that have an actual waterproof rating that I found. I ride in heavy rain regularly.I did have to modify my helmet a bit to make the system attach to my helmet. I took off the left side trim plate, and had to grind off part of the trim plate frame to allow the unit to sit flush against the shell of the helmet. Then had to fill the gap around the control unit with a rubber type sealant. Without filling the gaps it is very noisy. The battery keeper has to be bent a bit to accomodate the helmet shape. The small clip that holds the battery in place isn't quite the right shape to hold the battery secure, so it has to be bent a bit with pliers to hit the catch fully. The assembly still shifts a bit, so I might put some double sided foam tape on to provide extra security. The speakers are a bit bigger than the compartments on the helmet, but can space them away from the shell with the provided velcro. Doesn't sit perfectly, but it is secure. The mic velcro sticks well to the front of the right cheekpad and seems to have good reception with the chinbar down. It doesn't always pick up voice with the chinbar up. Boom style mic has a bulky attachment plate that doesn't work well with this helmet. The bluetooth range is sad though as the signal is interrupted easily if my phone shifts in my waist level pocket. I previously used a uclear system where this was not an issue. (Not recommending uclear systems as they don't seem to last over a year of use)Voice control is pretty good, even at highway speeds. The button use is going to take a while to memorize, but there's a pocket guide.Sound quality is decent, but the volume needs to be all the way up on my device, and individual volume controlled with the comm system. Easy to pair with mobile devices. Haven't tried linking to other makes of comm systems yet.
All features are as expected apart from the sound. Despite having the JBL speakers, the sound quality is poor - lack of any bass, not enough volume, not clear enough at high volume setting. I was expecting more.Additionally, after the first few uses the sound starting breaking constantly every 2 to 5 secs, making it impossible to listen to music or make a call. The device has no damage. Purchased these for a long trip with my wife after using a Sena SMH-10 for 8 years, which never failed me. Many, many issues below, with Cardo's response to my complaints in parentheses:I mounted the headset on an AGV AX-8 DS EVO helmet and here are the problems I encountered:- Significant pain in the back of my head when taking the helmet on or off due to contact with the battery pack.- Inflexible mounting hardware required me to cut plastic and styrofoam out fo the side of my helmet to mount the main unit. This may have impacted the structural integrity and overall safety of my helmet. This may have impacted the structural integrity and overall safety of my helmet. ("I'm sorry, but the PACKTALK SLIM has a compatibility helmet link in our website, and your helmet is not there so why would you purchase that?https://www.cardosystems.com/packtalkslim-compatible/"). The website says: *If your helmet isn't listed below it doesn't mean it doesn't fit. Please try and if it fits please let us know so your fellow riders can enjoy it as well.- Poor tactile function, as the buttons were hard to operate. For instance, to mute another person, I would need two fingers or a long thumb to hit two buttons simultaneously in an upward direction, which is unnatural. This is also exacerbated by the poor mounting, and so I had to handle the headset very delicately. ("And you purchase an intercom unit that maybe one of the only units in the world that has voice commands and you barely need to use the buttons on it.")- Buttons are hard to manipulate while wearing gloves, which are important for all rider safety.- Poor settings overall. When putting your headset on mute, another rider cannot break through to you in case of an emergency. That's very dangerous. When sharing music, the receiving rider cannot adjust tracks or volume. It took us hours to figure out how to share music, but the endstate was terrible. Also, we needed to use an iPhone app to share music, which is also dangerous. It seems much of the functionality is tied to the app, which distracts riders who want to use this product. Without this app, the buttons were also either hard to use or did not function as promised.- Poor wind reduction capabilities prevented us from being able to speak at highway speeds on my BMW R1200GSA, which provides significant wind coverage. While there are other issues encountered, those are just a few reasons why I will not be using this Cardo system. I value safety when I ride, and I have always seen Bluetooth systems as either an aid to safety or a detractor, in this case.I'm very happy w/ the Sena 20S.Cardo has since offered to replace this system with a Bold model, but they have not followed up. Revzilla's policy is to not accept opened boxes, so this has turned out to be a waste of money.
When listening to music the sound will randomly cutout which is very distracting. I don't have this problem with a $20 pair of headphone I use at work with the same phone playing the music. It almost makes you think it cuts out when you hit a bump or turn your head a certain way which is where it gets distracting. I don't know if it's just a symptom of my unit or both. My wife has not used hers for music which is where you notice this problem. I would like to know why it does this as I don't think it should for $500+. First time we wore them on the bikes we got caught in a down pour and they kept on working. This is why I bought Cardo over the other brand which is not waterproof. First time we wore them on the bikes we got caught in a down pour and they kept on working. This is why I bought Cardo over the other brand which is not waterproof. Why would anyone buy headsets that aren't waterproof?? The speakers are plenty loud despite what anyone says. They just haven't found the right mounting spot. They need to be exactly inline with your ear canal and right up against your head. This makes getting the helmet on tricky as the foam covers want to grab everything as you pull your helmet down over your head. I got these to go on my new HJC RPHA 11 Pro helmet. This is the most money I've had on my head in the 25+ years of riding and I love it. Being able to talk to my wife whos just learning to ride while we're on the street in the action is priceless. I can give her coaching in the moment. I also forgot how much I missed having music on my rides. When I first started riding we used to have to buy cheap headsets and tear off the headband and stuff the jagged speaker into the helmet pocket, plus there were wires. I'm not a fan of the phone feature while riding a bike. No matter how you look at it, it's a distraction from safely operating a motorcycle. One day I was jamming out to music, singing along, and my voice somehow caused the phone to start dialing someone I really didn't want to talk to right at that moment. So I'm coasting down the road, grabbing my phone out of my pocket and scrambling to cancel the call. Another odd thing about that incident is after that my microphone on my phone quit working and now I cant make calls on my Iphone. Not sure if it was the Cardo or just a coincidence and Apple doing it's programmed obsolescence with an old 7 plus. Anyway, these are great tools to have out on the road as long as you don't let them become a distraction. These Cardo units seem to be well made despite any flaws in the software that makes them cut out annoyingly or voice activate unexpectedly. I would buy again and might just do that next year for our dirtbike helmets. However, I would probably get the scaled down models for that as I don't need all the connectivity out on trails.
it's adequate. overpriced for what you get, but you have few good alternatives.easy to pair and operate...voice commands for both google assistance and "hey cardo" absolutely do not work at all. I have to operate my phone manually either from the cardo unit or the phone itself.speakers not loud enough to contend with wind noise at higher (50mph+) speeds. It can be difficult to hear.
