Liquitex generally costs less than other brands, but is excellent quality. Use it to thin your heavy body paint without loss of binder, small amounts of water are OK, but too much water and your paint looses its ability to stick to surfaces or previous layers of paint. This prevents flaking or peeling. It also helps to even out the sheen of paints that can vary widely in finish. My only caution is if you plan on putting down many transparent layers, use the gloss medium, and save the matte medium for the final layer. This is because when matte medium is used with multiple transparent layers the previous layers become slightly cloudy or less saturated.

Always fairly priced with dependable performance. I purchased this medium to use in chine colle gel printing, i.e., as a super-thin glue. Works great! Smooths out well and then really sticks to the substrate. A+

I use the Liquitex Matte Medium all the time in my art. It does an excellent job thinning acrylic paint for glazing without making it watery. It also does a great job creating a nice finish to your entire painting when applied once your paint has cured. I Definitely recommend it.

I use this gloss medium to finish my acrylic paintings. It puts a crystal clear protective coat over them that makes the colors richer but does not change the color. I can sand it a bit if I don't want it to be glossy. I can even put a cold wax over it to create a richer oil-painting-like finish on the acrylic paintings. Also, useful for extending the Liquitex pigment.
I love Liquitex Matte medium for so many things. I extend and thin paints with it to make them more transparent without losing their pigment load. I use it to apply my collage papers to my surfaces. I use it between layers to give my paintings depth (it can be like looking deep into a mirror). I also use it for image transfers. It's so incredibly versatile.
I mix this with gac 800 and floetrol for a transparent background, and without the gac 800 as a medium for my acrylic pours. It increases the transparency of acrylic paint, as well as keeping the acrylic paint colours bright and beautiful. If you're on the fence, best to try a smaller bottle, but buying in larger qtys will increase proffit in your sales. #sweepstakes
I'm using the liquitex matte medium with my M. Graham acrylics and I really like it. I purchased this because M. Graham matte was sold out and this is the first medium I've tried so I can't compare. What I can say is I'm mixing it in equal amounts with my paint without seeing a noticeable drop in color shift other than what is expected with straight acrylic paint. It gives a nice, smooth lay down from the brush to the canvas. I'm getting a satin sheen once dry in my black and white paintings, not super matte, but much less glossy than straight acrylic alone. The adhesion does seem to be much stronger than acrylic paint because it is notably harder to clean off the pallet than the paints are. While on the pallet, after mixing into the paint in stays there a little while but I do see it separating after about 15 minutes but a quick remix with a pallet knife works it back in. I'm 100% satisfied with this medium!
This product is wonderful when it works, but it is inconsistent and unpredictable. Sometimes you cannot get the matting substance to mix properly back into the medium in which it is suspended. This causes thick and thin placed is the application, and the thicker places dry cloudy, wrecking the art work. If you stir or shake the medium, then you get tiny little bubbles, like a thousand of them, and they are impossible to pop. This leaves pock marks in the art work. The only time I have success with this product is if I mix it with paint that is opaque - then I can't see the cloudiness because it is disguised by the opacity of the paint.
I’m new to this material so I’ve used it for a few experiments, specifically as a layer to help seal some mica pigments I had mixed with acrylic inks. The medium ended up spreading both the added pigment and the acrylic layer beneath, which I was not pleased about. However, once dry, I could layer on other acrylics without the mica pigments spreading so it worked well in that regard. If used alone it is very tacky after drying, so don’t use it in place of a varnish.
This was my go-to matte medium for years (I am a mixed media/collage artist). The last bottle I purchased was completely unusable -- it was more like water. Nothing adhered, it left absolutely nothing on the surface of my pieces. I have no idea what's up with this brand, but I'm switching to Utrecht's, as it's less expensive and works extremely well.
