Written in the early 1790s and substantially revised before its publication in 1811, Sense and Sensibility is one of my favourites of Austen's novels. The story of two sisters, one sensible in the modern sense, the other with a great sensibility (that is, high emotional reactivity and affectivity), tells parallel tales of love for two sisters, and what happens when it is either inappropriately encouraged or modestly denied. With a familiar tale of a the women of a family forced to live off a small means because they cannot inherit their father's property, Sense and Sensibility is more upfront and cruel about the dangers of femininity and femaleness. Compared to Wickham, John Willoughby is downright wicked. And Lucy Steele is as sharp a minor character as you can find. A thoroughly enjoyable read. A recent publication with a flirtatious and modern-looking cover.

A very high quality product…the print, paper and binding are made for a lifetime of reading. The price is no bargain but when you have the book in your hands you feel justified in spoiling yourself with a little luxury. Makes a great gift to someone who can appreciate a classic copy.

I have been looking for 20 years for a Jane Austen Box set of this quality! The books are beautifully made, stylish, sophisticated and elegant. They look gorgeous on my bookshelf and are a "must have" for any fan of Jane Austen! They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and for me they're worth it! My only very small niggle would be that a ribbon book mark would have been useful, but I can easily forgive that in light of how thrilled I am to have finally found a Jane Austen set worth having!!
These comments refer to the book as a physical object--I'm not vain enough to review Jane's novels. The volume is attractive, well-bound, and legibly-printed. The artwork is okay--the artist's style doesn't excite this reader. The book is a bit over-priced, but it will survive many re-readings.
Been aiming to read Jane Austen’s novels in the year of publication order. Starting off with her first: Sense and Sensibility! My sister told me this edition is stately magnificent - so gorgeous. Looking forward to devour this classic! 🥰
Yay! Look what I got! 😍I'm sooo giddy right now.More books for this bookworm! ❤️I love you FullyBooked 😁😁😁
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the edition I have.Starting with the back of the book, in the after word, it mentioned that Sense and Sensibility was the first of Jane Austin's novels to be published, yet, it is the most under rated of all of Jane Austens works. Readers normally read Pride and Prejudice, or, Emma, first. In the biography, I was astonished to discover, that Jane Austen never married, yet, she had a good handle on people's relationships.Marianne seems to be the dreamer out of the two sisters. Elinor, to the point, practical and a very strong woman. Completely off topic I watched the movie and although Margaret wasn't a star in the book, I loved how the movie portrayed the feisty child. I loved her high almighty attitude. I loved how the book ... This is a TRUE classic and most know about the story. So, I recommend Sense and Sensibility to anyone who has read other Jane Austen books, because, if you love her style, you will like this one too, to anyone who loves classic literature, who loves the older style of England, Ye old English, such as .... 'twas, &t.c, civility, piano forte ...and once you have read the book don't forget to watch the movie, ... (Sense and Sensibility 1995 with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.) ... To get a double dose of english scenery, era, horse carriages, picnics, dances and the music.
