I've tried a few different kinds of gels now including the Gu and Clif brands but the SIS gels are far and away my favorite. I know the texture of these can be a point of contention to some but they're perfect for me. I really love the apple flavor but I even when I bought the variety pack there weren't any flavors that I didn't enjoy. I personally like that they kind of have a gogurt texture that you can easily swallow quickly without any water and I feel like consuming one every hour or so that I'm riding provides sufficient energy. On long rides I usually do also have some Clif Bloks but part of that is I just love the flavor of those as well.

As a group fitness instructor, I rely heavily on energy supplements. I teach on average 2-3 1 hour classes back to back of intense cardio or weight classes. I recently tried these energy gels and found them to definitely give me that extra boost that I would need before walking into the next class. I only scored it 4 out of 5 because of the amount needed to consume. Unlike other products, these servings are rather large. It is quite hard to swallow, but following it with water it is very easy to digest. Unlike other products, these energy gels are not as gooey, more a thick consistency. Flavors are ok, next time I purchase I would just select one flavor. I really liked the orange taste.

I've tried the majority of gels The Feed sells, and this is by far my favorite. The consistency is thinner than a GU, and the texture is extremely silky, so it slides right down. Absolutely not sugary/cloying aftertaste whatsoever, which is my biggest hang up with gels. The last thing I want to do is squander my water trying to wash the sticky taste out of my mouth. I've tried the lemon lime and orange flavors, and they're both very subtle and not at all overpowering. Highly recommend.

Having used almost every energy gel product out there, I was anxious to try SiS Energy Gel over the course of a few 2 hour + training rides that I was putting in for some upcoming endurance events (I always try new products in training settings before trusting them enough for a race). I found the taste of the lemon & lime to be neither lemon nor lime, sort of a bland citrus like flavor, which wasn't horrible, it just didn't wow me. To be fair, most energy gels don't taste all that great anyway. The consistency is true to how they describe it, more of a liquid rather than a gel, so it actually empties out of the sachet rather than having to squeeze it out, like with other brands. The consistency is true to how they describe it, more of a liquid rather than a gel, so it actually empties out of the sachet rather than having to squeeze it out, like with other brands. This makes it a little easier to actually get in the mouth rather than all over your hands (and gloves, and shift levers, etc). The main thing I do not like is the low calorie count, about 80 calories per sachet. For a 3 or 4 hour event, I would need to stuff my pockets with these if I were going to rely on them as my main energy source. I am looking forward to trying some of the other flavors, especially the ones that have caffeine.
I use the SIS double espresso gels when I need an extra boost either for significant hill climbs or towards the end of long sportives. I can’t say they’re a taste great but they’re reasonably palatable when you need an extra hit and exhaustion takes hold. There is quite a significant amount of caffeine in these and the recommended amount is two gels in a day. To be honest I have found two to be more than enough in any given ride and as mentioned only use these on the longer all day sportives or mountainous climbing routes. Being the SIS hydro variety you do not need to take water with them. If your a coffee fan then you should be fine with the double espresso taste.
I hadn’t tried this brand for awhile so decided to try some of the newer flavours. The positives are that they are a good liquid gel so easy to consume and the flavours were ok on the pallet. No issues on the tummy. There isn’t any real negatives as such, except there are other liquid type gels that I would prefer so they would of have to be extra fab to sway me to buy more.
Very happy with the SiS gels. Personally find they sit well and are a good consistency not requiring water to take which is a real bonus. Flavour wise I got the Vanilla for the first time after trying some of the traditional flavours previously and was impressed. The SiS gels due to their consistency are also quite hydrating, great on warmer days. The only negative aspect is due to the more liquid texture they are on the bulkier side of gels but fit perfectly fine in shorts/belts I have. Highly recommend for people looking to start using gels.
These gels are never going to taste as good as cake. They serve a much more useful purpose than cake though. Training for a 10k swim and always got cramp at 5k. Decided to have one of these at the 4k point and kept going a few more km with no cramp. I've had other flavours back in my running days and this pineapple one is definitely my favourite. It's thick but not unpleasantly so. Sits okay in my stomach.
It is a good idea to train with the same gels you'll be using during an actual race or event. Both the Rock and Roll marathon series and the Seattle Marathon use SIS gels for the on course aid stations. If you are participating in an event with on course support, check the event web page. These isotonic gels are premixed with water; this makes them easy to ingest quickly but also makes them heavier and bulkier than, for example, GU gels. SIS gels will now be part of my running training, both because they go down easily and because they are offered on course at future events.
I am really pleased with this gel. The texture is the best out of all the gels I've tried recently and it gave me a good energy boost. It was 28°c on my run so it was great to have a gel which slid down easily and refreshed me a bit at the same time. I still took this with some water because it was so hot. The only negative is that I had a small stitch for the next half a kilometer. I don't know if this is due to the gel, or the fact I took water with it-or if that was just co-incidence. I'll have to test some more to find out. But overall I'm really happy with this gel. I had the fruit salad flavour which was nice. Looking forward to trying the other flavours now.
