The TV itself is amazing in almost every way....although, I noticed when utilizing VRR there is noticeable color banding at a 5% greyscale. I noticed this in several apps and on my PS5. The issues were not present when I first tested it and it seems to be less noticeable when VRR is not enabled...although still present. This is my 3rd attempt with this TV. The first one had almost 50 dead pixels and the second had terrible color banding from 0-20% and was noticeable in almost every color. With this set, I ran tests right out of the box and it was almost perfect...maybe one dead pixel but, I understand that happens. Then, as I was playing RE4 on my PS5 with VRR enabled and the appropriate graphics settings, I noticed some serious color-banding in certain scenes and ... MoreThe TV itself is amazing in almost every way....although, I noticed when utilizing VRR there is noticeable color banding at a 5% greyscale. I love this TV but, wow....I previously owned a Samsung TU7000 65" and did not have any problems with it until recently after owning it for 3 years. This has only been a month and so many headaches...I want to love this TV but, so many ifs.

The Sony KD-75X85K is to replace the TCL 6 series 55 I've had for the last 8 years. I wanted bigger. I got it. A 75 screen in an 11' x 15' living room is MASSIVE. It's also heavy. Make no mistake about it, this is 2-person install. Don't try it yourself, you will fail. Out of the box it's 75 pounds and completely unweildy going about it solo. It's a Google TV OS which I am not overly impressed with because I want to be able to control what I see when I turn on the TV, not some suggestion for something I would never watch that doesn't change for over a week. The screen seems to have an overall hazy look (like the topcoat is smoked plastic or something) and I have really come to learn what blossoming is because there is a lot of it here. Once you start fiddling with configurations and adjusting things to your liking (after you learn Sony's terms for everything) things begin to settle to your liking. For example, in Sony's world, the brightness controls the backlighting. The remote is clearly where Sony decided to shave costs. The dial which you use constantly is oddly placed and is small. Also, the settings button is immediately under the power button on the upper right -- so a bunch of times I have hit power meaning to go to settings. If you're playing a game, that can have severe repercussions. I have used worse remotes from Sony, but this is much more of a Google-produced piece of hardware (in my opinion). However, it is Bluetooth -- a saving grace! The TV has some strange, unexplainable quirks. Like the hideous static click everytime the screen changes. I've replaced HDMI cables, looked at everything Sony related I can about it to no avail.Overall, I highly recommed it if you want a big screen at an affordable price. While saying affordable may make some people squirm, the options are so far at the other end of the price spectrum they made me start reducing the size screen I wanted. Until I found this set and countless positive reviews about it.OLED vs LED/LCD? I thought about it, a lot. This TV won because 1. It's Sony. 2. Affordable OLED uses terms like QLED and Mini LED to differentiate themselves from the high-end OLEDs (probably to placate those with bottom-less wallets who don't want what just anybody can have). Since I swim with the regular folk I don't mind having a great TV that most of us can afford. Even if it takes me a year to pay for it.

But, if you do, an unnecessary on-screen menu appears whenever you turn on the tv or switch to the cable input. And, our universal remote can’t seem to be programmed to power this tv on/off.

I knew I wanted an 85" TV for my family room which is 20' x 24'. I looked at others and settled on this one due to its size and picture quality. The TV sound out of the box was good, but I decided to pair it with the HTST-5000 w/ the 300 W Sony subwoofer, which is now outstanding. It fills the room with great sound and is good with movies, TV Shows, and streaming.Since my family room has more light than my theater room, I decided on this TV due to its brightness vs. an OLED. It is perfect in this room. The picture clarity is outstanding, the motion smooth, and no jitter.I opted not to use the legs and mounted the TV above my gas log fireplace, giving me plenty of room for my Sony Soundbar.Since above the fireplace was the best place to mount the TV, I did ... MoreI knew I wanted an 85" TV for my family room which is 20' x 24'. It is perfect in this room. The picture clarity is outstanding, the motion smooth, and no jitter.I opted not to use the legs and mounted the TV above my gas log fireplace, giving me plenty of room for my Sony Soundbar.Since above the fireplace was the best place to mount the TV, I did worry about heat. I checked the temperature and knew it was within range of the operating temperature, but to be the safe side, I ordered a heat shield and put it under the soundbar, which lowered the temperature by 30 degrees.Because the TV mount swivels, pivots, and articulates, I can position the TV so there are no shadows, and it is viewable from all of the seating positions, which range from 0 to 45 degrees, with no loss of picture quality.I attached a picture during the day with the blinds slightly up and opened to show the picture quality of an SD TV show which would be the worst possible picture, and it is still good. If I watch streaming 4K or Bluray, it is simply incredible. The TV comes with many pre-loaded apps, and you can add more. I rarely find myself using the Amazon Cube. The airplay works flawlessly with both movies, youtube, videos from my iPhone, music, etc. I also attached my Bose over-the-ear headphones; they connected immediately and worked great.I had read that some people didn't like the screen they were presented with when the TV was first turned on. You can change a setting: what the default source is at startup. We have ours to turn on to DISH, which made the wife happy. The remote is nothing fancy, but this one still has the number pad on it, making it faster than the "new" style where the numbers appear on the screen. The remote also has four short but buttons for Youtube, Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, along with the typical Yellow, Blue, Red, and Green buttons.Another added feature is allowing the volume to be displayed on the TV or not displayed when changing the volume on the soundbar. One last note. The TV has both an ethernet and wireless. Since I had ethernet behind the TV, I hooked it up but found I was limited to 100MB, I have 1000GB and tried the wireless and was getting about 850MB so in my case, wireless was the better option for streaming. So if you have fast internet with access to ethernet, you might try wireless, which isn't limited to the 100MB limit that the ethernet is.All in all, this is an excellent TV for what I am using it for!
THE GOOD:My first 55" tv ever and the first Sony in 25 years! First, the picture (4K) is superb and worth the cost. It walks all over ANY 1080 image! Plenty of adjustments you can make )some required reading to see exactly what they do). Another positive is the weight at appx 50-55 pounds. Not bad because it is a big TV and should have some heft. Finally, sound is surprisingly GOOD for flat screen TV speakers. These speakers can get loud while staying quite clear, but this is no hard hitting subwoofer! As it sits, I had an easy time adjusting settings for loud/clear audio for NASCAR races and Indycar races. I wish this Sony had 4 corner woofers for tight bass accompanying the good high and mid range sound it already has.The Neutral: I'm not happy, nor mad about ... MoreTHE GOOD:My first 55" tv ever and the first Sony in 25 years! Well I use a ROKU with about 6 pay-for streaming channels and none are Google TV that the Sony software pushes so hard. It wasn't very difficult to setup my ROKU, yet it wasn't CLEARLY STATED / recommended for the best HDMI cable needed for true top of the line 4K viewing, great sound. Sony should offer a TOP version HDMI cable for a great HDMI experience.PRICE: Obviously not cheap or free, but under $1000 with taxes and shipping. $865 shipped by FedEx 2-day delivery was fine with me.The BAD: I feel Sony could have given a stronger warranty for a new, higher end set with a load of tips and tricks. I think a solid 6- month FULL COVERAGE warranty of items with shipping, handling, wear and tear, AND a comparable to even 1 step-up better model TV set to take its place in the event something goes afoul. Finally back to speakers: these are great but with some Sony engineering magic, add a true bass speaker in the lower left and lower right front fascia to broadcast out hard hitting, tight, snappy BASS! Not a subwoofer; they would need too much room. 2 or even 4 square woofers would add next level sound! David
Jack of all trades. This TV is a very good choice of mid level TV. While other TVs may beat this tv in any one area, Sony has put an overall package together that works. It has a good panel, good software, good controls, good motion processing, good inputs. Not best in every area, but overall strong package. From a picture perspective, it has a high level of contrast and good black levels. it does not have local dimming, but a lot of mid level local dimming zones are so big that local dimming can look worse than an evenly lit panel and that is the case here. I actually prefer the look of this panel to a lot of the mid-range locally dimmed models. Colors out of the box are just "ok" but Sony offers a lot of adjustment options. Adjusting gamma and black level processing makes a huge difference in the picture 'pop' and this TV looks quite good. The panel is bright, colors are natural and pleasing, and Sony's motion handling is very good. Sony is also using Google TV OS which is a step up from Android TV. Speakers are barely adequate but consistent with TVs in this price range.Off-axis viewing is not great, so beware of that. TV looks good in bright rooms and reflections are handled well on its matte screen.Overall - happy with this at an on-sale price.
It was time to upgrade from my 2007 purchase of a Samsung plasma TV which I still love BTW. Firstly, I set a budget on what I wanted to spend and once that was established I embarked on a long journey of weeks of internet research, watching more YouTube video reviews than I can even count. Eventually I decided on the Sony X85K 55” TV. (please keep in mind I’m talking about a $1000 before tax budget. So I brought the TV home, set it up, played around with it a little bit, and though it was noticeably better than my plasma, there really wasn’t any WOW factor. My Cogeco cable stream now looks five times better than it did on my plasma. Also, after tweaking some of the other settings, the picture is absolutely gorgeous!Would I have liked to be able to purchase a $2500 TV? Of course! Who wouldn’t! But the X85K is by no means a budget TV, this TV is at the very top end of mid tier! So, at the end of the day, I am extremely happy with this purchase and I am sure this TV will serve us well for many years.
I absolutely love my Sony-50" Class X85K 4K TV! The picture quality is stunning, with vibrant colors and deep blacks that make every image come to life. We bought the smaller 32" Sony Bravia and were disappointed at sound and grainy minimal HD image. Exchanged for this which is twice the price but far more than twice as good. The image is stunning compared with anything we've had before but it's the sound that is the revelation in a complex space from all angles. Clearly has far better audio electronics so it's brilliantly clear at low volume on it's own or through our old Harmon Kardon sound bar and bass unit. Thing is, we'd just seen a YouTube video of 1970s and 1980s TVs and VCRs - they were similar £s despite income £s being so much less back then. I can follow modern 'meaningful' mumble acting, thump of car doors shutting, a bit of background music - all crystal clear atbthe same time. Great for music too.The only down side is how it mounts on a wall bracket. The M5 40mm screws go into metal holes set 20mm deep into the plastic back. Not as confidence inducing as that 32" Sony. Ought to be at least M6, preferably M8, in a metal plate on the back surface.
This TV is blowing my mind away. The flat design makes it ideal for a sleek wall mount for my living room. The edge-to-edge display has beautified the living room too - it's gorgeous. And the 85-inch screen gave the wall a run for its size.Being a smart and an android TV changed the game for me. For example, there is an option to connect a TV Box. I realised I do not need any TV box at all. All the LATEST movies in the cinema right now are on this TV without any other connections outside a home Wi-Fi connection.Connecting to Netflix, Google TV, Prime Videos and Disney Plus is seamless. The TV package has 2 Remote controls. One for the TV set up (and general settings), and the second one has a single touch that takes you straight to Netflix, Prime Videos, YouTube and Disney Plus. This second remote control became the most used after the initial setup. It controls the Soundbar System as well as the TV itself. With My Sony HT-RT4 600W Soundbar System, the Cinema is finally at home. I have looked forward to this moment in a long time.Security-wise, I am totally impressed. With kids around, setting age-related restrictions is as easy as ABC. Individual apps can be restricted, even the entire TV can be locked, and sweetest part is that VIEWING times (hours of view) can be set. I have stopped talking about screen times to my kids (it does not always go unchallenged) but with Sony -X85K, the talks are over. The TV simply goes off after viewing hours has been reached; and when they try to bring it back on, it was locked, case closed! It feels good, haha.Gaming on this TV is an out-of-this world experience, especially with my Sony Inzone 7 headphone. It's just brilliant, with crystal clear details.I was taken aback with the internal memory, which is just 4.4GB. However, I attached an external flash drive, and the TV allowed me to wedge it as an added internal storage (instead of being a removable type). I now have 34.4GB total memory for apps and games.I totally recommend this TV where home security, cinematic experience for homes, and gaming matters.
