I always go through the standard shutdown process every time and one day it just couldn't boot to Windows. The drive no longer showed up in BIOS and using a external enclosure with the drive in it was unrecognizable. I contacted WD customer service and went through troubleshooting with them and came to the conclusion that the drive was dead (most likely firmware corruption). On the Saturday afternoon, an email advised that the memory was lost, and the website showed it would be 3 or 4 weeks before they had a consignment. I ordered the memory from SCAN for the same price, with a silent thank you that it would be delivered the following week. It was delivered the following day - Sunday - so I could complete the build and start the first run. Great job SCAN and thank you!I recommend the WD Black SN850X, but the important thing is I recommend SCAN who are likely to become my default computer components retailer.

I highly recommend this to everyone who loves Computer and looking to max everything out.

This model, SN850X, has built in dram compared to the SN770 which does not. This means that it handles I/O thrashing better and reduces the write wears from your page file and windows journaling and logging. It also uses less memory and cpu time compared to drives with no dram which must allocate additional system memory and cpu cycles in their operations. It will also perform noticeably better when close to being full compared to drives with no onboard dram.I have two of the 2TB SN850x's in my 2021 ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503QR. 13 November 2024

Fast and works as advertised. I purchased this as an expanded storage for my PlayStation 5 Pro. The preinstalled heatsink is a necessity when used on a PS5. PlayStation 5 read speeds reported at 6,600Mbps. A little less than advertised by likely due to the PS5 hardware interface limitations than the drive itself. This SSD comes with dram so it’s ideal for use with PlayStation. Other lower cost SSDs might not have the dram and relies on HBM (memory from the host machine) for caching, this is fine for PC and possibly for PlayStations in most use cases. Just note that the PlayStation 5 does not support HBM.I have had good experiences with Western Digital drives and this one is no difference. The drives are reliable and is speedy as advertised.

So I bought this in preparation for the PS5 Pro. Have a 2TB WD SSD in my launch PS5. Moved over the contents of that drive to an external SSD. Removed it and put in the SN850X. The PS5 recognized it immediately. I am currently moving everything from the external SSD to it so when I get my pro all I have to do and remove it and put it in. Same exact specs as the Playstation branded model for $100 less. Plus got a $50 gift card for spending over $500. If I had to nit pick anything its that Best Buy shipped it in a non padded bag. Luckily it was fine but you'd think they would ship a $900 SSD in a box or at the very least a padded bag. ***Do better Best Buy!!!*** Also want to say this is my 2nd time purchasing anything at Best Buy in over 2 years. I bought an open box portal while visiting family up north a week earlier and then decided I probably would not use it so returned it at my local Best Buy in FL I had planned on getting the 4 TB drive but then decided to go for the 8TB. And I was in Best Buy every week before. I was really annoyed with how they handled the change to the Rewards program. Not that they changed it because I get things change. What annoyed me is that I was Elite Plus for many years and when they changed it they took away 7 months of Elite Plus status that I spent close to 6k the year before to get. So I decided I would take my money elsewhere. And I did for 2 years. But gotta be honest it felt good walking in there. The employees in my area are top notch and are always ready to help.

[Rewarded Review] WD is my go-to!
20 March 2024

First off, I want to mention one thing. Best Buy, in a very "clever" way, lists this drive under a different model number than everyone else. It's the same exact product as say, Amazon sells, and bestbuy.com even links to the Product Sheet from this drive's page that show a different model number than BB lists it under. What does it mean? Well the drive is exactly the same, but if you do happen to find a cheaper price, as I did, BB will 100% refuse to match it because "it's a different model number". Very slick. And this is not the only item they do this trick with, so be careful when you shop, is all I can say. However, as tempted as I was to give this review a lower rating because of the issue described above, I can't penalize an excellent product like that. I used to be all about Samsung SSDs, and they're still good, but I happened to have a picky computer, that seems to always act up with Samsung drives, even thought they do work fine in other devices, but WD work perfectly. So I switched to all SN850X drives in my system, and the 4TB was the latest addition. No issues at all. The temps are good with a motherboard heatsink, it's fast, of course, and it's a good deal, when compared with its closest competitor, the 990 Pro, I believe you're getting a better, more reliable drive from WD, at a slightly lower price. I recommend it 100%.
